1.0 Objective
The objective of this method statement is to define the procedure step by step to implement
the correct practices for installation of Fire Pumps & pump valve package.

2.0 Scope
This method statement refers to various work procedures contained within Design / Drawing /
Contractual specifications / Customer Quality Requirements which explains and covers the
installation of Fire Pumps & pump valve package.

5.0 Responsibilities
5.1 Project Manager:
a) Ensure all required submittals area made and required plant/ tools/ material and manpower
is available in timely manner.
b) Ensure all execution of works area carried out according to approvals, contract specifications,
and approved shop drawings, MS, ITP, ICL and CCL.
c) Ensure necessary coordination with all involved for timely completion of job.

5.2 Site Engineer:

a) Timely provision of relevant and complete information, approved documents and


instructions to site execution / installation team.
b) Proper execution of works as per approved documents, MS, Drawings.
c) The implementation of the procedures mentioned in MS with the help of concerned site
engineers / site supervisors.
d) To carry out site work activities with regards to Quality and Safety requirements
coordinating with regional Quality and Safety representatives.
e) Pre survey shall be done for work area to ensure safe working place.
f) Permit to work & clearance shall obtain for Excavation, Underground scanning from Client
representative.

5.3 Quality Engineer:

a) Identified Site Quality Engineer is responsible for preparation of project specific quality
documents in consultation and support from regional quality representative.
b) Regional quality representative will assist site quality responsible engineer in effective
implementation of approved quality plans and quality control procedures.
c) Responsible for communicating with all site staff about Quality requirements and
responsible for reviewing all related subjects.
d) Regional Quality Representative will be responsible for organizing Quality Audits with
coordination with site and project management.
e) Responsible for all corrective actions in consultation with project management and close
the non-conformity identified during quality audits.

5.4 Safety Engineer:


a) Ensure implementation of all safety measures and procedures specific to the nature and
type of execution work being carried out at site.

b) To ensure that all project personnel / site execution team is fully aware of their
responsibilities and have full understanding of related safety rules, procedures.
c) To advise the involved personnel about the risks involved and necessary HSE precautions /
measures to prevent it.
d) To maintain a continuous inspection / surveillance of site activities, implementation of HSE
policies, advise, train site personnel including workmen regarding safety at works.

5.5 Store in-charge:


a) The store in-charge will ensure that instructions for unloading, lifting, carrying and placing
materials are followed. Should be given to manufacturers / suppliers instructions for
preservation and storage.
b) The store in-charge for maintaining the record of incoming and outgoing materials and up
to date stock details of materials
c) The store in-charge will carry out visual inspection for Quality and condition of the
delivered equipment’s / materials against deliver notes and purchase order.

6.0 Tools & Equipment’s.


6.1 Mobile Crane/Tower Crane/Farhana Crane with the capacity at least two times of the Boards
load to be unloaded
6.2 Pipe Roller
6.3 Spanners / Hand tools
6.4 Calibrated and certified Lifting accessories e.g. chain pulley block, sling
6.5 Level indicator, Plumb bob
6.6 D-Shackles

7.0 Procedure
7.1 Method of Pump Storage

7.1.1 On arrival at site, receiving and unloading of pumps shall be done as per manufacturer’s
recommendation. Manufacturer’s hoisting provisions like lifting legs etc. shall be used for
hoisting and unloading. Unloading equipment like cranes, fork lift, and trolleys shall be
used if required.
7.1.2 Ensure that before pump storage should be calculate tonnage of capacity.
7.1.3 Visual inspections shall be carried out on arrival of pump with transporter; supplier and
any physical damages shall be reported immediately to manufacturer.
7.1.4 Check the pump for receipt of accessories like vibration pads / isolators, mating
couplings / flanges, etc.
7.1.5 Pumps will be segregated Model/size wise and stored accordingly for easy retrieval
7.1.6 Pumps shall be stored on a flat surface in well ventilated and covered storage area.
7.1.7 Inlet and outlet flange blanks shall not be removed until ready for connection to pipe work.

7.2 Installation Procedure


7.2.1 The Hoisting and shifting of pumps on the foundation shall be done as per manufacturer’s
recommendation.
7.2.2 Pumps shall be inspected again for any damage during hoisting / shifting.
7.2.3 Upon shifting on foundation, install the pumps with vibration pads / isolators and shall be
water levelled.
7.2.4 After completion of pumps installed should be provided of anchor fastener.
7.2.5 Upon satisfactory positioning of pumps any open water suction & discharge shall be closed
properly and area shall be cleaned.

7.3 Final Installation Procedure


7.3.1 Check and ensure free rotation of the shaft

7.3.2 Water level the pump assembly by placing the shim plates below the base frame as
required. Check the alignment of the coupling between motor and pumps with thread or
dial gauge.
7.3.3 Alignment of coupling arrangement between motor and pumps, after pump installation
shall be rechecked by the pump supplier before testing.
7.3.4 Ensure proper coupling guards are provided.
7.3.5 Complete the piping and valve package installation as per approved drawings. Following
care should be taken while carrying out the valve package.
1. Install the flexible connectors in the horizontal section of the piping. If installed in
the vertical line, use spring support for the dropping elbows at the suction.
2. Use eccentric reducers at pump suction to prevent air pocket in the suction and
concentric reducers at the discharge of the pump.
3. Do not install horizontal elbow at the pump inlet.
4. Ensure sufficient straight length of pipe is available at upstream and downstream
of balancing valves (DRV) as per manufacturer’s recommendations.
7.3.6 Install the electrical power connections as per approved drawings.
7.3.7 Provide grounding wiring as per approved drawings/manufacturers instruction.
7.3.8 After completion of the installation and complete filling of the water system, deflections
and spring tension in the rubber bellow to be adjusted as per manufacturer’s
recommendations.
7.3.9 Finally levelled the pumps and grouting to be done.

8.0 Records
8.1 Signed off Material Inspection Report.
8.2 Signed off with installation Check list
8.3 Attached manufacturer Test Report.
