STEP Standard 3 - Assessment and Data Literacy

Pre-Assessment:

- Copy and paste the pre-assessment you plan to use to assess the students’ knowledge
of the topic prior to implementing the unit lessons. Include the scoring criteria used
to determine whether the student Exceeds, Meets, Approaches, or Falls Far Below
the learning goal and measurable objectives.

Students will be running the mile for their pre-assessment. The student must make it under the
12-minute mark to receive a score of 100 points which is equivalent to 100%. For every 30
seconds that pass the 12-minute mark, the student will lose 10 points. For example,

12 minutes - 100%

12:01 mins -12:30 mins – 90%

12:31 mins -13:00 mins – 80%

13:01 mins – 13:30 mins – 70%

14:01 mins – 14:30 mins – 60%

15:00 mins and under – 50%

Pre-Assessment Data: Whole Class

- Once you have assessed your students’ knowledge on the topic, collect
and analyze the pre-assessment data to determine if you will need to modify the standards,
learning goal, or measurable objectives that will be addressed during instruction.

Number of Students: 43

 Exceeds: 18 students

 Meets: 12 students

 Approaches: 8 students

 Falls Far Below: 5 students

Pre-Assessment Analysis: Whole Class

- Based on the data above, what changes, if any, will you make to your selection of
national or state academic content standards, the learning goal, or measurable
objectives?

There will be no changes made of national or state academic content standards, learnings goal, or
measurable objective.

- Based on the data above, describe in 1-3 paragraphs the effect this data could have
on the planning, delivery, and assessment of your unit.

Knowing that 8 students nearly made it to the goal and 5 fell far below the 12-minute mark, I felt
confident that within the next mile they run, they will make it to at least the 90-percentile mark. I
simply had these students run an extra lap every day before their next mile run in order to
improve their cardiovascular fitness level. Despite the battle of getting the students to run the
extra lap, they were surprised at the results that came after.

Post-Assessment –

- Copy and paste the post-assessment you plan to use to assess the students’
knowledge of the topic after implementing the unit lessons. The post-assessment can
be the same as the pre- assessment, a modified version, or something comparable
that measures the same concepts. Include the scoring criteria used to determine
whether the student Exceeds, Meets, Approaches, or Falls Far Below the learning
goal and measurable objectives.

12 minutes - 100%
