Thanks for your query which I did agree to respond to in our previous discussions. Firstly, I caution
about the sources of the Boeing documents that you have provided, I understand that they are from the
Internet, so I cannot verify their accuracy, but will attempt to explain what the y are saying (given the
caveat above).

The wings of an aircraft are broken down into a number of zones and sub-zones for maintenance
purposes. The Boeing diagram below from the Aircraft Maintenance Manual shows the “Wing Trailing
Edge” zones (i.e. 550 for Left wing and 650 for Right wing) and it includes the Flaperon (which is
attached to the wing trailing edge). The right flaperon itself has a zone reference of 657. See diagram
below showing the leading edge and trailing edges on an aerofoil surface (such as a wing and a
flaperon).

Individual panels on the flaperon will have their own references, and the flaperon also has a leading
edge and a trailing edge. The one number photographed on the leading edge of the Flaperon happens
to be 657 BB. You will see in the list of flaperon leading edge panels include 657 AT, 657 BB, 657 CB, 657
CT, 657 DB and 657 EB.

The “leading edge of all exterior surfaces and components” picture is xxxxxx, so I cannot say anything
about that.

In summary, again I see no inconsistency with the information provided apart from the mis-reported
panel number in the media articles, which is nothing unusual.

As I have previously stated to you, the French Judicial Authorities have confirmed that the numbers
found in the recovered flaperon match the Boeing numbers for a B777 flaperon and the internal
manufacturers numbers found during their technical examination linked the part to 9M -MRO, the B777
that was on flight MH370. As such, we are confident that the recovered flaperon came from MH370 and
we do not intend to do any more work on that part of the investigation.

I trust this assists and closes the matter on the identification of the flaperon.

you advised to me to send this further information document to you hence this email -

In brief only - as discussed my initial discussion with XXXXXX XXXX - re email to me dated
20-08-2015 10:13AM/copy herein - related to the following report and which stated :-
• "KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 - A Reunion Island paper reported today that the debris
found on the island was allegedly stamped with "657 BB" instead of "BB 670" as
previously reported, which would make it correspond to a flaperon on a Boeing 777
jumbo jetliner. The paper Le Journal de lile de La Reunion had showed an exlusive
close-up photo, purportedly of the inside of the debris, saying it was "official proof" that
the debris had come from a 777, similar to the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight
MH370. The finding has yet to be independently verified by any of the
investigators. Previous media reports had said that the marking on the same debris was
"BB 670", which aviation experts said did not match with any of the parts of a Boeing
777. Australian Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss had earlier today claimed
that the code "BB 670" on the debris could be a maintenance number, instead of a
serial or registration number."

As above discussed with you - I therefore herein provide to you copy of the Boeing 777 Aircraft
Maintenance Manual 06-44-00 as following :-

IT IS NOTED that the above Boeing 777 Aircraft Maintenance Manual 06-44-00 (Page 221
May 06/2008 D633W101-RBA) states that "657BB" is a "Flaperon Leading Edge Panel" -
whereas the Boeing 777 Aircraft Maintenance Manual 06-30-00 (Page 220 May 06/2008
D633W101-RBA) sent to me by XXXXXX XXXX on 20-08-2015 states and or describes a
Flaperon "Trailing Edge" Panel - (It is also noted that the above Manual 06-44-00 also
identifies other "Leading & Trailing Edge - Inboard & Midspan & Outboard - Panels") -

I hence in particular also query the above different Boeing Manual Reference
Numbers i.e. being (XXXX) "06-30-00" as comparative to the above "06-44-00" -

In addition - the further herein enclosed Boeing publication Diagram/terminology and or details
also specific clearly identifies and or demonstrates the exact position and or clarification of :-
• the "Leading Edges of ' All ' Exterior Surfaces and Components" - (see as per
(below) Boeing Diagram) -
I am therefore much bewildered re the above - as it therefore appears that there is a very clear
distinction between leading-edge-flaps and or devices and trailing-edge-flaps and

or devices i.e. as also therefore being on ' opposite ' sides of a wing - and also as per the above
stated and or demonstrated Boeing Publication Diagram - and I therefore seek your explanation
concerning the above different specified and or implied detail and or information re the above
Manual 06-30-00 as above apparent different provided to me by the XXXX on 20-08-2015 -

I further note that it also appears that other related documents and or diagrams (incl NASA) also
further clearly identifies and demonstrates the stated above distinction i.e. between the
terminology leading-edge and trailing-edge -

(In addition I therefore also seek any related explanation/if any you may have regarding the
above "BB 670" re the above report/Australian Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss - as it
appears that it may relate to "Subzone 670 - Wing Trailing Edge Flap Fairings"/re your above
Boeing Manual "06-30-00") -

XXXXXX is on leave at present, but I can advise that there has been no formal report issued by French
authorities at this time. For your information, however, following is a translation of the French
prosecutor’s announcement confirming that the flaperon is from MH370:
“As part of the judicial investigation into the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 370
on March 8, 2014, the expert assessment that began on August 5, 2015, following the discovery
of the flaperon in Reunion July 29, 2015, has allowed the identifcation–by means of an
endoscope–of three numbers inside the flaperon.
It appeared that these three numbers could correspond to reference parts manufactured by a
subcontractor to Boeing, Airbus Defence and Space (ADS-SAU), located in Seville (Spain).
Today, on an international letter rogatory to the Spanish judicial authorities, the French
prosecutor–assisted by the expert of the aeronautical mission–traveled to Seville in order to
collect all necessary data.
Immediate communication of data on orders and manufacture of the parts of the aircraft,
clarified by an ADS-SAU technician at a hearing, allows one of the three numbers found within
the flaperon to be formally associated with the serial number of the flaperon of the Boeing 777
of flight MH 370.
Thus, it is now possible to state with certainty that the flaperon discovered on Reunion Island on
July 29, 2015, corresponds to that of flight MH 370.”
