SOLIDWORKS SKILLS COMPETITION 2019

Engineers use their imagination and analytical skills to invent, design and turn ideas into products.
Today, virtually every aspect of our daily lives is enabled in some way by engineers.

In the Skills Competition, we aim to bring young engineers from around Malaysia to exchange tips and
tricks on how to design faster and with better accuracy.

IME welcome all degree seeking students to take the challenge to reach greater heights and take a big step
towards fulfilling the dream of a young engineer.

OBJECTIVES
 To create buzz and discover 3D modelling skills among students in Malaysia.
 To gather young and talented students to compete among themselves.
 To deepen students’ understanding and skills in industrial problem solving.
 To promote STEM skills in institutes of higher learning (IHL) and industry.
 To gain experience and brighten up resume for job opportunity.

WHO CAN JOIN

You are eligible to enter if you meet the following requirements at the time of entry:
 The Skill Competition open to full time, degree seeking student aged 18 years of age and above at
the time of entry from:
- Northern Region : Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak
- Central Region : Kuala Lumpur , Selangor, Negeri Sembilan
- East Coast Region : Pahang, Terengganu , Kelantan
- Southern Region : Johor, Melaka
 Employees of Dassault Systèmes SOLIDWORKS Corp. and its resellers are not eligible to
participate.
 Entries will be judged on multiple criteria that simulate the issues and concerns an engineer faces
every day.

SIGN UP
 Candidates will be able to sign up with their Faculty/Department designated lecturer starting from
now till:
- Northern Region : 12 August 2019
- Central Region : 19 August 2019
- East Cost Region : 02 September 2019
- Southern Region : 12 September 2019
 Each institution is allowed to send a maximum of 12 participants only.
 Registration Fees is RM30 each.
 Qualified candidates will be notified via Email on the details of competition.

JUDGING CRITERIA
All design work must be completed using SOLIDWORKS (e.g. use of imported geometry is not allowed)
and SOLIDWORKS design date for the design project, including all part, assembly, and drawing files must
be provided in the submission.

SOLIDWORKS SKILLS COMPETITION 2019

The results will be announced later as the competition based on each region. Lunch will be provided.
All required entry deliverables must be received within the designated Round in order for your entry to be
eligible for judging.

SKILL COMPETITION OVERVIEW

Northern Region
Date :19 August 2019
Venue : Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Permatang Pauh, Penang

Central Region
Date : 29 August 2019
Venue : Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC), Kuala Lumpur

East Cost Region

Date : 11 September 2019
Venue : Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Pekan

Southern Region
Date : 22 September 2019
Venue : Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Parit Raja

Competition Time Duration : 2 Hours

Competition consists of few parts:
 Parts : Create part and modify it by using SOLIDWORKS
 Assembly : Create assembly by using the parts
 Drawings : Generate drawing of the design

The candidates will be notified on the competition details once they have been qualified to enter the
competition. Candidates will be tasked to solve challenging engineering questions. Candidate who derived at
the right answer within the shortest time will be declared as the winner.
