Ben nervously. ‘What now?’
‘Let’s explore this place,’ Anna said.
But suddenly a woman in a long white dress
was running through the trees towards them.
She looked afraid.
‘Have you come to help Princess
Andromeda?’ she asked.
‘Who is that?’ asked Anna.
The woman explained. ‘Princess Andromeda

“She is more beautiful than the goddesses of
the sea!” But Poseidon, the god of the sea,
heard the queen’s words and he sent a sea
monster here. It has been here for a long time.

‘They have tied her to a rock near the sea.
The sea monster is going to eat her,’ answered
the woman. ‘And then it will leave us forever!’
She began to cry.
‘I remember the story!’ cried Leo. Quickly
he turned to the story of Perseus in the book.
He read it aloud:

Perseus was a great hero. He killed the

monster, Medusa. Then he started to fly
home on the flying horse, Pegasus. On
the way, he saved Princess Andromeda
from a second monster. Perseus fought this
terrible sea monster and killed it.

Leo looked up. ‘But Perseus hasn’t arrived

‘So Andromeda is going to die!’ cried Ben.
‘No, she isn’t,’ said Anna bravely. She looked

They all started to run towards the sea.

From: Simon
To: Tom

Hi Tom,
Thanks for your email. It was great to hear your
news. I’ve started my new school and it’s OK. I
was extremely fed up when I moved here. But I’m
feeling a bit better now. Guess why!
I’ve been exploring! I’ve found a really amazing
place. It’s a very ancient castle near my new
home. It’s called Crew Castle and it’s in ruins. I
can see it from my bedroom. At night, it looks
really scary! I’ve taken photos of it and I’ve
attached one for you.
Last Sunday morning, I was bored so I decided
to explore the castle. I had to climb over a wall
to get in. That was fairly easy because the wall
has fallen down! I visited the inside of the castle.
Then, I went down some stairs to a large room.
It was quite dark down there, but I could see the
entrance to a tunnel. When I was looking into the
tunnel, a bat flew out. Urgh! I was terrified and I
ran all the way home!
I told Dad and he was extremely angry. He says
that I mustn’t go into the castle on my own. But
he was also very interested in the tunnel. He says
that he will explore it with me next weekend! I’m
really excited! I’ll send you an email and tell you
what we find.
