1. INTRODUCTION
Induction motor is mainly used for industrial application. In some times, the induction motor will
eventually fail because the installation failure, poor environment, locked rotor etc. The condition
monitoring techniques comprising of fault diagnosis are of great concern in industry and are gaining
increasing attention. The numerous internal fault occurs in induction motor like stator inter-turn, rotor bar,
earth fault etc. If the motor operating at high or low voltage as per requirement, its reduce efficiency and

cause parameter failure [1]. This paper prove basis for induction motor monitoring which can be further
extended to for fault analysis. Many methods are used for monitoring of induction motor like vibration
monitoring, thermal monitoring, chemical monitoring but they require additional sensors and component,
where in this the induction motor parameter monitoring using only current transformer and voltage
transformer therefore the additional component cost is reduced [2]. During the running condition of
induction motor a variety faults occur. If some of these fault is not found at the instantly therefore it’s
created pernicious failure.
Some measurements require that we preserve complete information about the signal, frequency and
phase. However, another larger group of measurement can be made without knowing the phase
relationship among the sinusoidal component. This type of signal called spectrum analysis. In other words,
when combined properly produce time domain signal under examination [3]. About broken bars and rings,
eccentricities and misalignment information provided by stator current consequently the spectrum of
induction motor can reflect the faults [4].By sampling the stator current and then analyzing its spectrum
incipient fault can be detected. Whenever interturn fault occur in stator winding, the short circuit current
flow through the faulty path. This set-up the negative MMF consequently net MMF reduced. Therefore,
the waveform of the air gap flux is changed by the distortion of net MMF consequently harmonic
frequency is induced. These appear in spectrum indicate the short circuit fault is present [5].
A harmonic is a signal or wave whose frequency is an integral (whole-number) multiple of the
frequency of some reference signal or wave. The term can also refer to the ratio of the frequency of such a
signal or wave to the frequency of the reference signal or wave [6]. The nonlinear device is major source of
harmonics to produce for example arc furnace, transformer etc. Due to this various effect occurs on the
equipment [7]. Such as an electrical loss like I2R loss, iron loss (eddy current loss & hysteresis loss) and
stray load loss are depended on the magnitude & order of harmonics. Iron loss is directly proportional to
the square of air gap voltage. The harmonic currents are directly depended on the magnitude of voltage
harmonics [8]. The higher order harmonics creates excessive heating in the motor. Due to that monitoring
of the harmonic monitoring is necessary to prevent the motor against the fault.
In this paper monitoring the parameter of induction motor such as voltage and current has been done
and analysis of signals using LABVIEW is done. LabVIEW is multi task software so that monitoring of all
the parameters are done with it easily by graphical programming. In experimental setup three current
transformers, step-down voltage transformer as potential transformers and 3-phase variable
autotransformer are used along with 0.75HP three phase induction motor with no load. With these testing
set up monitoring of the current, voltage, FFT power spectrum, harmonic distortion, amplitude level
measurement (high state level, low state level) and spectral analysis has been done. Stator interturn fault,
phase fault, harmonic analysis and earth fault etc can be identifying using this induction motor monitoring
arrangement.

2. METHODOLOGY
Methodology contains whole process for monitoring the parameter of induction motor at no load. This
system used NI 6008 DAQ card for data acquisition. The data acquisition system comprises the acquiring
signal from the measurement source and digitizing the signal for analysis and present in PC by using
LabVIEW software. The FFT tool is important part in LabVIEW for various filed i.e. spectral analysis,
modeling, applied machine and digitalizing [9]. In this testing-up system the FFT tool is using for FFT
power spectrum analysis (with real and imaginary parts of the signal), spectral analysis, harmonic
distortion and amplitude level.

2.1. Data Acquisition

Real time data monitoring is done with the data acquisition system. This make system more reliable,
reduce complicated connection and fat operation in consumer application. They have multi task job.
Therefore, alone one card interacts with induction motor and collects the various data in different condition
of motor. In this study used the NI 6008 DAQ card. They have 8 analog input channels, digital signal at the
I/O the connector, +2.5 VDC and +5 VDC reference at analog input channel [10]. The component of data
acquisition system, sensor converted physical signal to electrical signal, signal conditioning circuitry,
sensor signal converted into form of digital value and ADC convert analog signal to digital value [11].

3. EXPERIMENTAL SETUP
The experimental setup includes a 3-phase squirrel cage induction motor with 3-phase variable
autotransformer. For measuring current and voltage, current transformer and step-down voltage
transformer are used. The experimental set-up system block diagram shown in figure 1. Experimental set-
up system shown in fig.2. The three current transformers connected in series and three step-down voltage
transformers connected in parallel with 3-phase induction motor. Autotransformer is used to varying the
supply voltage at the different level.
A NI 6008 DAQ is used for acquire the signal from current transformer, voltage transformer and these
signals send to the PC for analysis. This representation shown by LabVIEW. In LabVIEW software
building VI by graphical programming i.e. arranges different blocks as per requirement. Due to low current

rating of DAQ card, waveforms and readings are note down at 130V using variable 3 phase
autotransformer.

with condition of motor. These results are identifying, when the motor is in healthy and running condition.
When abnormality occur such as stator or rotor cage fault i.e. turn to turn fault in stator winding, shaft
missalignment, broken teeth in load gear box etc. These effected on speed and torque of the induction
motor. It is detected by the FFT power spectrum anaylisis or two sided spectrum analysis (real and
imagenary parts) to khow the magnitude and phase.
Current and voltage waveforms that indicate the normal condition of motor. In certain condition of the
motor is over voltage or under voltage, its obtained by the monitring of curent and voltage waveforms with
its status i.e. voltage and current are normal or over or under, as per rated capacity of induction motor.
Harmonic distortion indicating the component level of harmonics, higest harmonic and total harmonic
distortion to know the which harmonic is present and its effects on induction motor. The parameter
monitring is essentional for long life and prevent the prenicious failure against the fault in induction motor.

6. CONCLUSION
Parameter condition monitoring and its analysis is important task in industries. This paper presents a
parameter monitoring of 3 phase induction motor in healthy condition. Practical arrangement for induction
motor parameter monitoring is shown. Using the set up FFT power spectrum, harmonic distortion,
amplitude and level measurement, voltage and current waveforms has been achieved. It proposes FFT base
power Spectrum analysis. It also represents the real and imaginary parts. With these values, we can do
stator current fault analysis and fault diagnosis. This paper work identifies the voltage spectrum, parameter
condition and can be useful for internal fault analysis for more accurate result. The condition is monitoring
necessary to prevent the motor against pernicious failure.
