Op Ed Reflection

This was probably my favorite paper that we wrote this semester. I loved the idea of

arguing for something you are incredibly passionate for. It came so naturally being able to use

your own perspective to your advantage. The topic of removing grading from schools has been

something that’s been talked about a lot in my education course classrooms over the past couple

of semesters, and I knew it was something that I wanted to dig deeper into. This Op-Ed was the

perfect opportunity to do so.

Finding evidence for this argument was probably the easiest part of the assignment.

When we first submitted our topic ideas my ECE 212 class was looking at this topic, and a few

resources were posted on canvas that furthered our education on the topic, a few of which I used

for resources for my Op-Ed. Formulating the ideas into words on a paper however was a little

more difficult. The idea of progressive classrooms is still relatively new, so there aren’t many

practical applications or instances where it has been used yet, so being able to describe how it

looks was especially challenging.

After reading my Op-Ed, I hope whoever reads it has a better understanding of what a

progressive gradeless classroom is, and the advantages that come with them. The difference
between intrinsically and extrinsically motivating students is vital in ensuring their future not

only as students, but as participating members of society as well.
