INTRODUCTION

Bicol was historically known as Ibalong prior to Spanish colonization. Region V or Bicol

region is known as a haven full of natural wonders, comparable to foreign land, which makes it as

one of the most visited tourist spot in the Philippines. It is also known for its woven products that

were meticulously hand made by the Bicolanos, themselves. But aside from its boundless

attractions another thing that makes Filipinos and even foreigners love this place is their

mouthwatering cuisines. Since Bicol is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and other gulfs and bays,

it features picturesque coral gardens and became a sanctuary of some of the world’s most unique

sea creatures which is why this place is so abundant in marine animals and the exact reason why

most of their cuisines contain seafood. As a matter of fact, Bicol is also recognized as the chili and

coconut plantation of the Philippines. It supplies the whole country with coconut and chili fruit

that’s why it is obviously called as the home of chili- and coconut-based cuisines.

Being one of the most visited places here in the Philippines, especially during summer

time, this is one of the best place featuring white beaches, breath taking sceneries, hospitable

people and world class cuisines. And because of its blooming tourist attractions and the bunch of

people visiting Bicol from time to time, people start to think business that will give them profit

while catering the tourists’ needs and wants, and that’s where the different souvenir shops,

restaurants, cafes, bars, resorts etc. start to operate. And as the time goes by these type of businesses

are almost everywhere the province making it hard for them to earn profit for there are so many

competitors competing for their customers, and that situation leads the business people to think of

a way for them to differentiate their store from the others.


PROBLEMS

1. Where do you think is the most strategic place to put up a store?

2. If ever you will run a store, where will you going to place it considering that it is distinct compare

to the existing ones?

3. In placing your store, will you consider these following factors? why?

- Population or Foot Traffic

- Visibility

- Accessibility

OBJECTIVES

1. To be able to observe if there is really a significant relationship in placing a distinctive

store in admirable locations

2. To be able to know the reasons what made them put up a store considering that it is not a

common one.

3. To be able to identify the factors that they consider in choosing a location for their store to

be placed.

NULL HYPOTHESIS

There is no significant relationship in placing distinctive stores in admirable locations.


DISCUSSION

The study sought to prove that there is really a significant relationship in placing distinctive

stores in admirable locations. In order to give verified data, the researcher interviewed a store

personnel who is knowledgeable enough to give a statement or answers the questions with regards

to the topic. But because of the long distance between the interviewee and the interviewer, the

researcher decided to give the questions via technological means through the researcher’s relatives

that is living near the location of the store.

The interviewee gave some reasons why they decided to put up a unique store knowing

that it brings more risks compare to the common one. The very first reason she provided the

researcher is that they wanted to build a store that has no competitors. And when asked what she

meant by that, she elaborated her answer by explaining that most of the recently-build stores there

has so many competitors because of the fact that they are selling the same products or catering the

same services and she wanted to be different. Instead of going with the flow of trends she decided

to think of a store wherein she will provide different product which will make it unique and will

make the customers become curious. And that product is called ‘Handiong Sili Beer.’ As

mentioned above, Bicol is known for its chili and coconut products which is the main reason why

they decided to use it as the main ingredients of their newly launched product since it will become

very convenient for them. At first she said that they doubt if their product will be patronized since

it is a new taste. Thinking that it will become one of their problems, the difficulty in advertising

their new product, they decided to put up their store to a place where many people will see it

considering that this product is new and no people knew it other than them. Therefore, they decided

to put up their store along highway in Magsaysay Avenue in Naga City in Bicol, wherein many

people will get to see it while strolling along the road. Ibalon Craft Brew is the name of the
store/bar, the home of the sili beer, and they had their opening last 2017. They named their store

after the very own epic of Bicol, the ‘Ibalon’ while their beers’ variants are named after the three

main characters namely ‘Baltog Pale Ale’, ‘Bantong Pale Ale’, and ‘Handiong Sili Beer infused

with native siling labuyo’ which has become the symbol of the fierce courage of the Bicolanos,

which is commonly seen when they eat the native chili that is oozing in spicines, she jokingly said.

The interviewee also identifies three factors that they consider in choosing the best location

for their newly built store. The first factor she addressed is the population. Since the product they

offer is a beverage that is consumable only by humans, the number one factor they consider in

placing their store is the foot traffic of the location or if it is highly visited by people. And since it

is located along the highway many people will see it effortlessly and even accidentally. According

to businesstown.com, two of the main factors that business people consider in choosing a location

for their business is the demographics and foot traffic, and their store’s location is the perfect place

which makes it a very admirable location to place a store, because this place has a great number

of foot traffic and vehicles’ traffic at a different time of the day. Also, this location made it become

very visible since it is just along the highway therefore the customers will not have a hard time

locating it. The last factor they consider is the accessibility. And since most of their customers are

tourists coming from any part of the country who are not really familiarize with their town, their

location is very accessible.

The interviewee also clarified why they said that their store is distinct from the other stores.

Bicol is known for their newly made delicacies with the touch of chili just like the newly chili ice

cream which became a ‘thing to do or eat’ when you visited the Bicol. Since chili is one of their

pride, they offered Sili Beer and became the very first and only craft beer in the Bicol Region. It
is completely new and different compared to the usual commercial beers served in most stores,

restaurants, and bars in Naga City, which makes it a distinct store.

ANALYSIS

Finding a store’s location is a vital factor when engaging in business. Since many business

ideas are circulating around the country, finding a way on how to be different is a good strategy in

making your business stands out. Anyone who has the capital to start a business can do business,

making it harder for every business enthusiast to operate their own businesses because competitors

are everywhere. Choosing what kind of business is already time-consuming plus considering its

location will make it become mind blowing, which is both tedious but an exciting process,

therefore when it is considered well, this will determine whether your business will bloom or not.

Placing a business in an admirable place will guarantee a good business flow, but what

makes a place considered admirable? There are factors to consider in looking for a place to build

their store. The first factor is the population or the foot traffic. A good store location is the place

wherein there is a high foot traffic per day because this means that the higher the foot traffic is the

higher the chance of customers.

Another factor is the visibility. Placing a store near or alongside the highway or walkways

is a great idea because their stores will become accessible to those who are just passing by or even

for the walk in customers, which brings to the last factor the accessibility.

Store’s location greatly affects the outcome of a business therefore carefully deciding for

it is a must.
CONCLUSION

To sum it up, through the research conducted, the researcher was able to drawn the

following conclusions:

First, the common reason why business enthusiasts build a store knowing how risky

running a unique store will be, is that the higher the risk the higher the return it may bring and

that’s how it is in the business world.

Second, in this fast-paced world wherein a trending product today will become out of trend

tomorrow, starting a different store or a not so common store that is not in line with what’s timely

is a good idea but it may be a double edge sword because it can be your business’ edge but can

also be your greatest risk.

Lastly, considering the factors in choosing the best location in putting up a store is the great

help for the business starters to decide. If the above mentioned factors were met, then that place is

the best place for you to start up your business.

In conclusion, the researcher rejected their null hypothesis that there is no significant

relationship in placing a distinctive store in admirable locations. For it is clearly seen that when

putting up a not so common or distinct store, choosing well the location is the best way for that

store to stand out because many common stores are competing with each other also because they

place their store closely to each other. Therefore, putting up a distinct store in an admirable location

is the perfect equation to run a business and can guarantee a success.
