Into the Classroom

For the Beginning Teacher
● Do not reinvent the wheel
○ There are many lesson plans online that have been developed over time by teachers with a
wealth of experience.
● Utilize resources
○ Speak with teachers/specialists on your campus to find out if systems are in place campus
wide or what programs may be available for your use.
● Work smarter not harder
○ Many lessons have already been curated online ready to use in the classroom and are free of
charge.
● There is support
○ Online programs can help ease organization and data collection as they are often already
consolidated within the programs available.
Goals:
● Create an engaging atmosphere for learning.
● Demonstrate a growth mindset by using 21st. century skills of education.
● Develop a digital system for distributing/tracking assignments and progress.
● Organize lessons and activities.
● Customize differentiated lessons and activities.
● Increase parent involvement and information.
● Create a resource of your own.
ISTE Standards:
● 7a - Provide alternative ways for students to demonstrate competency and
reflect on their learning using technology.
● 7b - Use technology to design and implement a variety of formative and
summative assessments that accommodate learners needs, provide timely
feedback to students and inform instruction.
● 7c - Use assessment data to guide progress and communicate with students,
parents, and education stakeholders to build student self-direction.

Timeline/Action Plan:
● One week
○ Speak with grade level, content teachers on campus to ask how they use tech.
○ Investigate the use of campus wide programs or apps.
● One month
○ Research what is available online to filter out what may work best for you class.
○ Investigate user reviews and insights from multiple sources.
● One grading period (6 weeks)
○ Pick 1-3 programs/apps to use in the class as a trial run for a lesson.
○ Reflect on what went well and what could be improved or modified.

Measuring Achievement:
● Find a mentor teacher to share your ideas and reflection with.

● Ask a coworker to review your plan for feedback.

● Have someone observe your lesson.


○ Debrief after lesson to review strengths and areas of need.

● Review data of informal assessments provided in app to gauge effectiveness.
