From: Jessica Brown Re: School Library Media Program
Dear Dr. Brown:
With the assistance of Mrs. Andrews, I recently evaluated the School Library Media Program at Pulaski Elementary. To effectively evaluate the program, I used the Judy Serritella Exemplary Library Media Program Self-Evaluation Rubric. The rubric six categories: Student Achievement and Instruction; Technology; Staffing; Facilities, Access, and Resources; Administrative Support; and Staff Development. There are a total of 21 indicators. We found that the Pulaski media center rated Basic in 8 indicators, Proficient in 5 indicators, and Exemplary in 8 indicators. The media center is needs improvement mainly in the category of Student Achievement and Instruction, Technology, and Facilities. Information literacy skills need to be integrated into the curriculum and more collaboration needs to occur between the media specialist and teachers to teach and assess students. Technology tools and the instruction of using GALILEO need to be encouraged more, and the media center needs to be flexible with the times students and faculty can come in to use resources. While these are areas that need to be improved on, there are many areas that the media center is excelling in. A full-time media specialist and a full-time media clerk are employed at the school, and the physical space of the media center large and full of technology. Print and non-print resources are used frequently, and an online catalog is used. The media specialist frequently communicates with other media specialists and participates in professional development. I feel that the good areas in the media center outweigh the bad. I know that with a few changes, the eight basic indicators can be changed to proficient or exemplary. Sincerely, Jessica Brown Jessica Brown Fall 2020 Program Evaluation Action Plan Basic to Proficient There are 8 indicators that are rated as basic.
