C. Grammar : The Simple Present Tense

When telling about behaviours, and functions of people, animals or things, you use the simple
present tense. Study the following explanation.

1. The purposes of the simple present tense are :

a. to describe a person/place/thing at the present time.

Examples : - She works in a hospital

- He has spiky hair

b. to talk about things you do every day.

Examples : - I usually go to bed at about 09.00 pm

- I rarely go swimming

- She never eats meat

- We always read books in the evenings

- I sometimes play badminton on Saturdays

2. The forms are :

Positive : S + V1

Note : he/she/it + V1s/es

Examples : - I go to school at 6.30

- He goes to school at 6.30

 Negative : He/she/it + does not
(doesn't) + V1

Note : I/you/we/they + do not (don't) + V1

Examples : - She doesn't study English on Monday

- They don't study English on Monday

Interrogative : Does + he/she/it/ +

V1 ?

Note : Do + I/you/we/they + V1
