THESIS ABSTRACT

PROJECT : Centre for alternative learning , Pushkar

INTRODUCTION :
Feasibility:- With the increasing population of Pushkar from 2001 (14,789) till
estimated population in 2021(23,591) more of social and physical infrastructure is
required.
 Literacy rate of the city is high but there is only 1 middle school and 1 senior
secondary school in the city that does not cater to such a large number of
population.Hence children living in the city has to go to Ajmer for the
education.
 City is known for its popular tourist destination who stay in city for more than
2-3 months which will be helpful for the school to have volunteers.
 Also inclusion of this city in the “Smart city project” by the Indian government
marks out the requirement of such institutes .

Need of the project:- Such schools lead to individual development of the students
and stress free education which will not only help in holistic development but also a
practical approach towards education.

Site area:- 2.7 hectares (27,000 square meters).


Client:- Non-governmental organization
Broad requirements: Classrooms, workshops , activity area, Laboratories ,
Exhibition area , interactive spaces ,Guest houses , staff quarters and hostel.

Project Challenges:-
 Designing a school which is not confined to classrooms.
 Designing spaces which can be transformed indoor to outdoor and as per
desired requirement.
 Facilities catering to experiential understanding of the curriculum suitable for
various age groups. Designing with respect to different age groups.

CRITERIA OF SELECTION :
 It is helpful in connecting various spaces and brings continuity in the movement.
 It helps in enhancing circulation on site.
 It helps in regulating the microclimate so as to make it more comfortable for the
children to easily transit between indoor and outdoor.
