WHAT IS THE ROLE OF PHILOSOPHY IN TODAY’S WORLD?

Have you ever thought of the reason why you’re alive? Or right here in this
world? Have you been curious? Most would answer yes, as I would as well. This is
exactly why the world is growing and advancing. Because we are curious, it is in the
nature of humans.

Philosophy plays a big role in our daily life. Our decisions, our beliefs, and how
we think depends on it. As for its role in today’s world, a world that is now wrapped in
advanced technology, philosophy is very vital. Our scientists and inventors thinking
about how to make technology better, and making big decisions to make things
advanced. They expand their knowledge in order to create more. As much as possible,
they acquire knowledge and apply it through science. But before science, there is
always philosophy. This is how epistemology works in our world.

Even our own president relies on philosophy. Yes, he rules the country based on
the law, but he enforces it in a way that he believes is right. His belief will always affect
how he rules the country. As for the people, they must choose a president who they
think is capable of doing the work. This is once again based on the belief of the people,
their critical thinking, and reason. This is how ethics play its role in the world.

Once we are born, we enter a world full of people who are philosophizing.
Another big role of philosophy is its effect on our religion. Philosophy is about giving
explanations to understand what we cannot see. It is not just about knowledge, it relies
also on wisdom. The faith of a person will not be strong without a foundation of
philosophy. This rules out the motto “To see is to believe”. With philosophy, an
explanation based on thinking and wisdom is enough.

The most common role of philosophy is that it adds more “why” questions to all of
our other questions. Why do we exist? If you research, there are tons of philosophies
about this topic. The more explanations there are, the more questions are born. Religion
and these “why” questions are both the reason for metaphysics.

As I have mentioned, humans are curious. This is exactly why philosophy is our
way of coping up with the unseen and the unexplained. With every question in our head,
there is an answer which leads to more questions. Philosophy has a widespread
meaning and role in today’s world. Whether it is about politics, faith or just your average
life, we depend on philosophy. I believe that we will never stop philosophizing. Why?
Because we are curious.
