This Part of BS 5486 has been prepared under the direction ofthe Power Electrical Engineering Standards Committee and
supersedes BS 5486 : Part 2 : 1978, which is withdrawn. It is identical with IEC Publication 439-2 : 1987 ‘Low-voltage
switchgear and controlgear assemblies, Part 2 : Particular requirements for busbar trunking systems (busways)’, published by
the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
This Part of BS 5486 is a supplement to BS 5486 : Part I , which specifies the general requirements for busbar tmnking
systems.
The following is adapted from the IEC preface.
Busbar trunking systems (busways) shall comply with all the general requirements specified in BS 5486 : Part 1, unless
otherwise indicated in this Part of BS 5486, and shall also comply with the additional particular requirements contained in
this Part.
This Part shall be read in conjunction with BS 5486 : Part 1. Its clauses and subclauses modify or replace the
corresponding clauses of BS 5486 : Part I ; their numbering therefore corresponds to the latter.
Where there is no corresponding clause or subclause in this Part, the clause or subclause ofBS 5486 : Part 1 shall apply
without modification.
Terminology and conventions. The text of the international standard has been approved as suitable for publication as a
British Standard without deviation. Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those used in British
Standards.
