CENG 328 Project

Autonomous Vehicle with Obstacle Avoidance

The goal of this project is to design an autonomous vehicle that is capable of avoiding obstacles and able
to race with other autonomous vehicles on a race track.

Design Requirements

Table 1 shows a summary of the design requirements. There are certain behaviors on the inputs that were
not specified in the project description and would allow for different interpretation on these signals.

Table 1: Design Requirement

Requirements Description
R1 The Autonomous Vehicle shall be built using a microcontroller.
R2 The choice of Autonomous Vehicle algorithm, is left to the student
The Autonomous Vehicle shall have at least two different types sensors, the choice
R3
of sensors is left to the student
The Autonomous Vehicle shall complete the race track from start to finish once
R4
released from the starting line
R5 The Autonomous Vehicle shall not be assisted once released from the starting line.
The car must be safe to operate. The vehicle must be equipped with a “STOP”
R6
switch which will completely turn off the power from the vehicle when toggled.
The Autonomous Vehicle shall not exceed 40 cm in overall length, 40 cm in
R7
overall width and 30 cm in overall height
Autonomous Vehicle must be self-contained, and not externally operated by wire
R8 or by remote radio control.

 Project cost must not exceed AED 500.

 The vehicle must reach the end line within 4 minutes
Tasks to be completed

Individual Racing:
The teams will go one by one on the race track.

Task 1: The Autonomous Vehicle to complete the race track without obstacles from start to finish
Task 2: The Autonomous Vehicle to complete the race track with obstacles from start to finish.
Task 3: The Autonomous Vehicle avoids obstacles placed at any location within the track.
Task 4: Autonomous Vehicle must stop on the Finish Line

Team Racing
The teams will go in groups of two.

Task 1: Autonomous Vehicle to complete the race track without obstacles from start to finish.
Task 2: Autonomous Vehicle to complete the race track with obstacles from start to finish.
Task 3: Autonomous Vehicle avoids obstacles placed at any location within the track.
Task 4: Autonomous Vehicle must stop on the Finish Line
