PAPER 5 – ePortfolio

INTRODUCTION
From everything learned throughout the course, I could highlight several aspects: First,
knowing how to summarize the information obtained in the different sources, obtaining only
what is necessary and relevant for your task. In turn, the knowledge of obtaining useful sources
of information through digital platforms. Next, knowing how to use the different citation
formats, since they are different from the ones I used before and had no knowledge of them.
Another important aspect learned is the need to put yourself in the skin of the reader when
writing a paper. And finally, for me the greatest skill that I have obtained at the end of this class
is to be able to write a text in English, as it is not my mother tongue. I consider it the most
important thing that I took from this class.

PAPER 1
The strategy used in this case is the narration. In this case of a family story where a Spanish
dish is involved.
With this task I realized that each culture is a world and each country has different and peculiar
traditions. The main content problems that I obtained when performing this task was the
translation of Spanish food words into English. He taught me to write about this that I love the
food of Spain and that the simple fact of thinking about traditions or special family moments
can make your day.
The intention with this work, in addition to showing part of my family traditions in the kitchen,
was to show some typical Spanish dish that was not well known or cooked in the United States.
The voice used in this work is a close voice, with little technical and close vocabulary so that
the reader feels as if he is telling a story or talking with him in a more personal way. It is a
voice more like the one I can use daily.
The strengths are the knowledge of the subject I am dealing with and the weaknesses being the
first English writing of the course for me. I think that readers also see these weaknesses and
strengths because of the knowledge of the subject and because of grammatical and
organizational errors. For the review, I will use the corrections to learn where I make the most
mistakes.

PAPER 2
The strategy used in this case for the biblipgraphy is the simplification of content.
In this case, being a bibliography, work made me get more involved since I did not know this
citation format before. As a result of my work, I changed my mind about the difficulty of the
APA format. After reading the respective chapter of the book and the help obtained from the
Writing Center, I consider it less difficult than I initially thought. It has taught me how to use
the APA format when making citations in any job.
By reading my work I want readers to obtain all the necessary information about what they can
find on the quoted website just by reading the summary included in the citation. In turn, I want
to show the reader the knowledge of the correct use of the APA format. The risk taken in this
case is to talk about a dish of Spanish origin and use sources of information in the Spanish
language. Having to translate all the information found, this made it difficult to develop this
task.
Strengths I believe that knowledge of the subject and weaknesses is the lack of knowledge of
the APA format. For the review I want to learn from my mistakes and use my words more
when synthesizing information from any web page.

PAPER 3
The strategy used in this case to argue is the contrast of those who are in the hunt and because
we are right about those in favor.
The topic of the hunt made me involved when looking for information on the negative and
positive aspects of this activity. I have not changed my mind after found different information
about hunting. But by reading more on this subject, I have learned from the different points of
view and reasons that, within the negativity that I see in the hunt, I may have learned that there
are people who have important reasons to carry out this activity. In turn, the difficulty of
arguing in English caused me problems in writing my work.
The audience that I imagined influenced me when it came to explain more about the concept
of hunting and offering broader information about the people who may be in favor of this
activity and against it. In this case, the voice used had a more serious and professional intention,
less close. Readers expect this genre to find arguments for which being against this activity is
beneficial and information necessary for the argument to be complete. I think I met the
expectations of the information but the poor organization of this and the lack of citations
possibly impoverished my work.
In this case I see more weaknesses than strengths. For a good argument we need good
organization and information and I have lacked that in this document. Those are the aspects
that I want to improve in my review.

PAPER 4
The strategy used in this case is the classification of content in a structured way to offer the
solution to the problem presented with the proposal offered in the document.
When dealing with childhood obesity and putting a solution to such an important health issue
at present. The need to solve or remedy this health problem that is increasing year after year,
is something that we all agree on. Yes, it is true that thanks to investing time in the search for
information, I have learned a lot about obesity in the United States, since it is the number one
country in the ranking of childhood obesity. Writing about this topic taught me the importance
of educating the little ones about feeding issues and providing them with a healthy diet to
improve their growth.
With this proposal, my intention was to attract the reader to the idea of the need to implement
my proposal in society to solve the problem of childhood obesity. Using a professional voice,
with well-cited and conclusive examples with the ideas proposed have been the strength of my
work when making the proposal to the reader. By reading my proposal, the reader hopes to
obtain enough information and data to be able to see that the proposed idea is viable and that
the possible solution with this idea is viable to be implemented in society. I think I did meet
the expectations of the reader.
I believe that understanding the subject and accurate information have been my strengths. And
weaknesses in turn the lack of command of the language. My plans for the revision are to learn
from my mistakes and continue working to improve my English.

CONCLUSION
Finally, regarding the revisions, I consider that all the corrections are correct and necessary in
my work. Thanks to these I have been able to improve and understand that I make mistakes
more often at the time of writing. The only correction I do not agree with is the proposal in
paper 4 on the references page where it says that I need to use English sources for English
classes when looking for information. It is not that I do not agree, but at the beginning of the
course by asking if I could use sources in my mother language and get a yes for an answer, I
assumed that there would not be a problem. Everything else, I consider the corrections are
necessary.
The biggest conclusion I have obtained about myself throughout the course is to know myself
when writing in another language. I have realized that one of my virtues in writing is the ease
of writing, that with little information I can write a comprehensive and complete document.
And my greatest difficulty is the language, since my mother tongue is not English, the
organization of the text and grammar is usually incorrect or difficult for the reader to
understand.
In the same way, the difficulty of understanding has made me get more involved in the class
by paying attention or reading the different chapters of the book twice and even using the
Writing Center repeatedly to get the help I needed in the different tasks. I believe that these
difficulties have led to a better understanding and writing of the language in a very short time.
I still have a lot of work to do and a lot of English to learn, but thanks to the English 111 class
I have better writing skills. I have the necessary tools to improve my future writings that will
be requested in other classes.
