Insecticidal Property

Acacia Seeds

Bark against termite
CHAPTER I
Introduction:

Insecticidal Property of Acacia (Samenea saman) Seeds and Bark against

Termites (Coptotermes vastator). A study on the insecticidal property of
Acacia seeds and bark against termites was conducted to find out if these
could be used against termites. Acacia trees preferred by most gardeners are
varieties that burst out with yellow blooms in the winter or early spring.

These extracts were used as samples in the qualitative analysis and

preliminary screening for insecticidal property against termites. The
screening of the ethanolic extracts from Acacia seeds and bark revealed the
presence of saponin, tannins, Alkaloids, reducing agents-glycosides,
carbohydrates, which have the capacity to kill termites. The one-way
Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used in comparing the means of the
effect of the ethanolic extracts against termites.

An insecticide is a pesticide against insects in all development forms.

Insecticides can be used in agriculture, and household and has been use in
the industry.

The used in insecticide has been increase in agricultural productivity in 20 th

century.

One of the common uses of acacia is for its wood. This is because it is an
extremely durable wood. It can also resist water damage and scratching,
because these trees are so fast growing.

Acacia is a tropical tree that can is commonly found here in the Philippines.
It is one of the used sources of wood that can be used in building houses,
making furniture and other wooden works. Termites digest food and there
food are pieces of wood, paper and other materials containing cellucose.
Abstract:

Benefits of Acacia Tree in termites:

In this Investigatory Project, some people nowadays are concerned with the
termites, so our research would like to invent a new insecticide using barks
and seeds from Acacia tree. Due to the efficiency of Acacia Tree and Bark
against the insects, it can be a great help to lessen the insects.

1). Insecticidal can help humans and places away from insects:

Insecticidal out of Acacia Tree can help many people from sickness and it
can also help places like empty warehouse, forest, and many more, so than it
can be clean and also it will lessen those insects from bugging us.

2). Avoid insects:

By making an insecticidal, we can avoid insects from biting us that can lead
us to danger.

3). Pure and Natural Insecticide:

Natural insecticides from Acacia Tree which cannot harm us, because it has
no chemical and it is also a pure organic that can defend pests and grazing
animal.

4). Making pesticides in a cheaper way

Making pesticides at home with a cheaper money, lesser time and effort, and
also an organic one.
Significance of the Study:

There are many commercial insecticide preparations highly

effective against insects. It has been sufficiently demonstrated that
these preparations are generally extremely lethal even in small
quantities.

Significance of this study is to accommodate the alternative that is

less lethal and does not persist in the food chain. Our research will
conduct about insecticidal ability of the acacia tree, particularly the
seeds and bark.

Due to the Philippines rich natural source having acacia tree grow
abundantly on its soil, efficacy of Acacia seeds and Bark against
insects can be tested.

Acacia seeds and bark revealed and presence saponin, tannins,

alkaloids, reducing agents, glycosides, carbohydrates, which have
the capacity to kill insects.

Acacia tree can be a great help in clean leaving against insects, and
also lessened or even eliminated in insects in this research.
Scope and limitations:

Acacia has about 160 species of trees. Acacia are native to tropical and
subtropical regions of the world, particularly Australia (where they are
called wattles) and Africa where they are well-known landmarks on the
savanna.

Acacia tree are fast growers, but they usually live 20 or 30 years. There are
some types of Acacia tree are protected by long and sharp thorns. There are
four types of Acacia tree: Bailey Acacia, Texas Acacia, Knifeleaf Acacia,
and Koa.

Most acacia trees are medium sized, with pinnate leaves and clustered
flowers. They produce pod-like fruits. The flowers are very fragrant are
often made into an essential oil that is used aromatherapy.

Acacia trees are very tolerant of dry climates and can actually restore
fertility to the soil where they grow.

“Whistling” acacias are named because of the thorns, which is no longer a

house ants make a whistling sound when the wind blows over the entrance
hole.

Many acacias make attractive landscape plants with their unusual forms,
green to grayish- green foliage and clusters of yellow, white or orange
flowers that typically bloom in winter.

Many acacia species have aggressive roots or produce a large number of

viable seeds, both of which allow the plants to go quickly invade the soils
outside their growing areas.
