History/ Career

 First child of Naval and Soonoo Tata. (1937)


 Parents divorced in mid 40‟s when he was 7.
 Studied in Campion school, Mumbai
 Studied Architecture and structural engineering at
Cornell University (1962).
 Joined Tata group with Tata Steel Division.
 Became Director-in-Charge of the National Radio &
Electronics Company Limited (Nelco) (1971).
 Advanced management program from HBS in 1975.

History/ Career

 Moved to Empress Mills in 1977, a struggling textile


mill within the Tata Group.
 Ratan was named director of Tata Industries (1981).
 Appointed chairman of TATA group in 1991.
 Initiated project Indica which was launched in 1998.
 Under the chairmanship of Ratan Tata, Tata Sons
successfully acquired Corus Group. (2007)
 Under Ratan Tata, Tata Motors bought Jaguar & Land
Rover from Ford Motor Company. (2008)
