THE LITTER GANG

When you plan this play, think particularly about making the voices of
the different characters sound different from each other. You may
add to this script if you wish.

Crisp Packet: Mmmm! It’s so nice and hot today. I can feel the
grease melting inside me, getting all lovely and
smelly!
Half-Eaten Butty: I thought I’d caught a whiff of something really
revolting, you gorgeous creature, you!
Crisp Packet: You smell pretty rancid yourself! Is that mouldy
cheese?
Half-Eaten Butty: (Proudly) Certainly is!
Crisp Packet: Ooh, you’re driving me wild!

[A gust of wind blows some more litter in their direction.]

Kit Kat Wrapper: Hiya, guys!

Crisp Packet: You’re shiny. I bet you get all the best flies.
Kit Kat Wrapper: Well, I don’t like to boast, but they’re all over me,
especially in this heat, because my bits of chocolate
have melted.
Half-Eaten Butty: It’s great here, isn’t it? Just think of all the germs
we’re spreading.

[The swooshing noise of a broom.]

All: Oh no! It’s the Caretaker! We’re doomed!

RATS’ DELIGHT!

Rats love a dirty, messy environment! Make your rats really twitchy and
rat-like! They clean and fiddle with their whiskers all the time!

All: (rap song) Nibble, nibble, nibble, nibble, licky and munchy,
These old bikkies are really crunchy!
With a nibble, nibble here and a nibble, nibble there,
We can spread germs EVERYWHERE!

Ron Rat: I’m getting nice and fat since we decided to move to
this school.
Rita Rat: (Sighing happily) Mmmmm me too. I can hardly fit
under the shed anymore.
Rupert Rat: Do you ever feel guilty about spreading germs to all
those kids?
Ron + Rita: Nah, mate!
Rita: I mean, it’s their own fault for dropping stuff, isn’t it?
Rupert: Well, I suppose so. Mind you, one kid was off sick for
three days coz of our germs last week.
Ron: Who cares? Tough luck!
Rita: (Rushing off in delight) It’s mine, I saw it first!
Rupert: I don’t believe it! That little rat has found a butty
stuffed behind a radiator!
Ron: Give it ’ere, Rita!
Rita: (Licking whiskers) Too late!
Rupert: Thanks for nothing.
Ron: ’Ere, do you think those kids know we don’t exactly
use toilets?
Rita: (Giggling) Hee, hee, I bet they think those little wet
patches are just spilled Coca Cola!
All: Rats are great, rats are brill,
We just eat up stuff you spill!
Old bananas taste so nice
Sorry if we give you lice! (Evil sniggers)
Task: Act out this play in your groups. Try to have as many rat-like
mannerisms as possible! If you have time, continue this scene in your
own way.
