Preface

Notes on Safety

This manual does not constitute a complete catalog of all safety measures required for
operating the equipment (module, device) in question because special operating conditions
might require additional measures. However, it does contain notes that must be adhered to for
your own personal safety and to avoid damage to property. These notes are highlighted with a
warning triangle and different keywords indicating different degrees of danger.

Danger
means that death, serious bodily injury or considerable property damage will occur, if the appropriate
precautionary measures are not carried out.

Warning
means that death, serious bodily injury or considerable property damage can occur, if the appropriate
precautionary measures are not carried out.

Caution
means that minor bodily injury or property damage could occur, if the appropriate precautionary measures
are not carried out.

Note
is important information about the product, the handling of the product or the respective part of the
documentation, to which special attention is to be given.

Qualified Personnel

Commissioning and operation of the equipment (module, device) described in this manual
must be performed by qualified personnel only. As used in the safety notes contained in this
manual, qualified personnel are those persons who are authorized to commission, release,
ground, and tag devices, systems, and electrical circuits in accordance with safety standards.

DC6-041-2.07, Edition 04.2016
Preface

Use as Prescribed

The equipment (device, module) must not be used for any other purposes than those
described in the Catalog and the Technical Description. If it is used together with third-party
devices and components, these must be recommended or approved by Siemens.

Correct and safe operation of the product requires adequate transportation, storage,
installation, and mounting as well as appropriate use and maintenance.

During operation of electrical equipment, it is unavoidable that certain parts of this equipment
will carry dangerous voltages. Severe injury or damage to property can occur if the
appropriate measures are not taken:

Before making any connections at all, ground the equipment at the PE terminal.

· Hazardous voltages can be present on all switching components connected to the power
supply.
· The device does not represent a safety-oriented application.
· Even after the supply voltage has been disconnected, hazardous voltages can still be
present in the equipment (capacitor storage).
· Equipment with current transformer circuits must not be operated while open.
· The limit values indicated in the manual or the operating instructions must not be
exceeded; that also applies to testing and commissioning.

Danger
Consider obligatory the safety rules for the accomplishment of works at electrical plants:
1. Switch off electricity all-pole and on all sides!
2. Ensure that electricity cannot be switched on again!
3. Double check that no electrical current is flowing!
4. Discharge, ground, short circuit!
5. Cover or otherwise isolate components that are still electrically active!

Statement of Conformity

The product described conforms to the regulations of the following European Directives:

· EMV-Directive 2004/108/EG
(observance of the harmonized standard EN 60870-2-1:1996)
· Low-voltage Directive 2006/95/EG
(observance of the harmonized standard EN 61010-1:2010)

Symbols used on the I/O Modules

Symbol Description
Warning, risk of electric shock

Caution, risk of danger. The documentation must be observed.

3.1.7 External Circuit Elements

The following circuitry variants are examples, and do not relate exclusively to the depicted
inputs/outputs.

3.1.7.1 Error Detection on the External Circuitry

Following errors are detected on the input channels by permanent tests of the I/O-module.

· Short-circuit of the sensor voltage supply

· Short-circuit of the inputs when sensor supply is on
· Cross fault between inputs of different groups
(test pulse must be set; depending on sensor)

Following errors can be detected by the application:

· Interruption of the sensor (e.g. by double, 2-channel or/and antivalent circuitry)

· Cross fault between inputs when using 2-channel sensors

Following errors are not recognized:

· Cross fault between inputs within a group (1-channel sensor).

A fault exclusion must be provided. See Fault exclusion by constructional measures

3.2.7.7 Transient Effects of the External Circuitry with External Load

Up to a length of 100 m, the line parameter (RK, LK, CK) have only little effects against the
transient effects, which are generated by load.

LK
tC = 5 ×
R K + 40

RK …ohmic resistance of the line [Ω]

LK …inductance of the line [H]
CK …capacity of the [H]
tC …transient effects time on the line without load

Example:

Type of cable RK LK CK tC
*)
Cu-wire 2 x 0,5 length100 m 6.0 Ω 2.8 mH 8.8 nF 0.0003 s
*)
2 x 100 m

The line length (cable length) for DO-6270 is restricted to 200 m at 220 nF/km.

The test times are determined by transient effects, generated by the resistance and the
induction of the line and the external load.

LL
4× + tC < t D
RL + 40 [s] t D = 0,009

tC …transient effects time on the line without load

tD …time between the activation of the internal measuring circuit switch and the evaluation of the current
flow
(the time tD may be max. 10ms!)
LL …induction of the external load [H]
RL …ohmic resistance of the external load[Ω]

Examples:

Relay RL LL 4 LL/(RL +40)+tC applicable

Schrack MT (RM) Relay 24 VDC 466 Ω 0.62 H 0.0052s yes
Rexroth RD22045 valve 24 VDC 21 Ω 0.097 H 0.0067s yes
*) *)
Hengstler H-469 relay 24 VDC 1300 Ω
*) *)
Omron G7SA relay 24 VDC 1600 Ω

Values will be supplied later

The minimal and maximal resistance values of the respective relay types may not be
exceeded.

3.4 Fault Exclusion by Constructional Measures

Note
Please observe the notes on fault exclusions concerning wires/cables in EN ISO 13849-2,
Table D.4

The following example shows constructional measures which usually can be used for fault
exclusions against short circuits:

· Alu-protective tube
· Buried cable

Not shown in above example:

· Short-guided or clamped connection wires in the cabinet.

These prevent a short circuit with other terminals / points when a cable is disconnected.
· Earth connection and overvoltage protection are designed regarding mutual influencing or
common cause in a way, that by redundancy and other measures a disconnection of the
earth connection, disconnection of the neutral point, a short circuit or potential loss are
prevented.
· Separate cable per sensor
