Narrative essay

My graduation day

I was a true jumble of nerves for my last school day. It was the day of
parting and parting is always painful in life. It was the last day of being within the
walls of the school. It was the last chapter of carefree student life.

I was pinching my right arm to make sure it was real. Although I was finally
leaving school, the feeling of being unsure didn`t go away. I was happy to be free
from the strict discipline of the school and sad at the same time to part from my
teachers and friends.

The whole day was full of preparation and organization for the big moment.
All the girls were dressed in black dresses with white sterile aprons; all the boys
were in elegant costumes. The school bell rang as usual. We all went solemnly
through the corridors to the applause of the younger students. After the first period
the teachers and the students of both classes met in the school hall. The principal
and the teachers sat in the chairs. At that moment the program about the outgoing
class began.

We have prepared a program that included various dancing and musical acts.
These acts helped to fondly recollect all the best school times and express gratitude
to the teachers not only for the knowledge, but also for the kind of personalities we
grew up. When we started singing farewell songs to our teachers, they could not
help shedding tears. There were clapping on all sides. The occasion was highly
emotional.

The final point of the program was the speech of the school principal. She
made a brief but touching speech about leaving for good. She said that the good of
the school should be at the heart of every student. It was the school and its teachers
that had prepared us for the struggles of life. She explained in detail, the
advantages of simple living and high thinking. She wished us all a successful life.

After this our worthy teachers showered their blessings on us and addressed
a few words of wisdom and advice. I remember her advice not to look back by
standing at the threshold of this school. Just look forward and go ahead to see the
world, her well wishes are always with us. The world needs more intelligent
youngsters like us. Success will be on our way. We need to use power to make
others happy and not sad. Never surrender to any bad situation and keep strong
belief in ourselves. She said to take up one idea, to take that one idea in our life–
think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part
of our body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the
way to success».

«Go and earn name, fame and money and come back to me to tell us your
success stories, - she said in a farewell. Those words are still ringing in my ears.

We thanked our form-master for her keen interest in and parental love for us.

Then we were photographed along with the Headmaster and the teachers.
We bade good-bye to one another. Our throats were too choked to utter a word.

But the last sentimental moment was yet to come. We all went out to the
schoolyard for a kind of farewell ritual. We all had balloons that we had had to let
go into the sky. The same ritual that we had in the first grade when we just got to
school. A completed cycle. Letting go of the balloon, each of us made a wish or
parting words. It was so touching it moved me to tears.

Gloom reigned in the school. I took leave of my teachers, asked for their
blessings and started for home. My feet faltered. I left the gate, but the school
building, seemed to beckon to me. I will always remember my last day at school.
