Mystery: ​ Khanom and her twenty-three year old daughter,Takky, are both carrying on

with a great life subsequent to relocating to America from their nation of origin,

Bangladesh. After ten years in the USA, Khanom proceeds with the customs and culture

of Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Takky adopts to American customs and culture.

Research Question:

How does being in two different stages of development justifies the difference in

these two individuals’ views on acculturation and enculturation?

Research Plan:

To write this term paper, I will use the Eight stages of Development by Erikson to

explain why the two individuals have different approach on acculturation and

enculturation. Then I will use the readings from Guarnaccia to discuss about the

disruptions Khanom and Takky faced after moving to America. Finally, I’ll use Berry’s

Theory to find out which acculturation strategies these two individuals utilized,

assimilation, integration, marginalization, or separation. In addition, I will also interview

Khanom and Takky to learn more about their overall experience with life in America, and

collect details that can be used to backup my explanations throughout the essay.
