Reflection Essay

Throughout this semester, I was able to learn a lot about myself as a writer, in terms of

my strengths and weaknesses. By taking this class, I was given many opportunities to learn how

to write different types of essays, analyze passages, and use rhetoric. All of these techniques are

things that I will be able to use in other classes and to help me be successful on the AP exam. I

think that this was class really pushed me and I was able to become a better writer in certain

areas and recognize weaknesses I did not even realize I had and that I still need to continue to

work on.

After writing the first essay in class, one of my greatest weakness became very apparent

to me. Time was something I struggled a lot with I was not able to pace myself and did not even

finish most of the essays in class. Usually when there are time limits on essays, I get distracted

by the fact that I only have a limited amount of time that before I knew it, time would be up.

Also I feel more pressure and it felt like I could not think of any ideas. Then as a result, I could

not properly develop my body paragraphs and provide enough commentary with my evidence

and quotes. This is an aspect of writing that I still am not good at and will need to continue to

work on.

Another weakness I have is not including enough commentary or analyzation after

quotes. Often times I just explain the quote in different using different words or phrases. I did not

add enough elaboration or explain the significance of the quotes. But I think I improved on this

skill a little bit as the semester went on

While there were many aspects of writing that I did not excel in, I remained consistent

with writing a decent introductory paragraph and including a thesis in the essays we wrote in

class. Although it is clear that there are still many things that I need to work on, I know that with

the growth mindset and the techniques I have learned and developed this semester that these

goals can be accomplished.
