ART APPRECIATION REVIEWER

MEDIUM AND TECHNIQUES IN THE ART

1. MEDIUM- refers to the materials w/c are used by an artist to create works of arts to
interpret his feelings or thoughts.
2. Techniques- it is the ability of the artist to fulfill the technical requirements of his
particular work of art.
3. Painting- refers to both type of paint use and base or ground to which it is applied.

PAINT MEDIA

1. ACRYLIC- Fast dry paint, water resistant when it dry


2. Acoustic- to heat or burn heat. Beeswax, crystallized tree sap
3. Fresco -it is a technique of mural painting executed upon fresh laid or wet lime plaster
4. Oil paint – it is a form of slow drying paint that consist of particles of figment
suspended in a dry oil.
5. Pastel- the same paste made of powdered pigment raging from pail to dip colors and
used in making crayons form.
6. Tempera- fast drying paint medium consisting of color figments mix water soluble
binder medium usually glutinous material.
7. Water color- is a painting method in which the paints are made of figment suspended
in a water base solution.

1. Sculpture- The action or art of processing of plastic or hard materials into work of
art. Example: carving, modeling, welding.
Hard materials- Oldest form of sculpture. Example: stone, wood, metal
-the most popular form of sculpture. Example: statue, kinetic and
environmental.
2. Example: Metal and Pipes
-sound sculpture is differ from musical instruments in that there are not manipulated
by human player to make a sound. (Alexander Calder, Hugh Davies, Nigel
Helyer)
3. light- light sculpture are unique type of medium because they use various form of
light or lightning to create aesthetic effect. (Olafor Elaisson, Dan Flavin)
