Hi, We have a 6Kw Lr2 Lister Startomatic Generator. It
started cyling about 2 weeks ago and the problem has
Offline just got worse and worse, now it wont fire up on its
own.

It seems the fuel control solenoid is not functioning

properly ie, when you switch a light on it clicks on the
load detection circuit and tries to start the genny but
cant.... if I manually hold up the fuel control arm
(normally automatically raised) for a few seconds it
starts up and then stays on until the detection circuit
switches it off again.

Basically I am thinking that I need to replace the Fuel

control solenoid but it is a 24V model and thats all I
know, I cant find any manuals on the internet and I
have to go up and manually start this thing every hour
or so from 5am to 9pm as it currently runs my livery
yard.

does anyone know where I can find a manual so I can

get the part number? or even better where I can buy
the parts!

Please can you help?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Cindy

Hi Cindy and welcome, have a look in the side bar of my blog
under 'Lister Stuff' for a wealth of info, particularly this one
http://www.listerengine.com/smf/
I do have scanned copies of the startomatic wiring diagrams for
SR,ST but not sure about LR, will check when I get home, I'll
also forward you some phone numbers of parts suppliers.

Offline Hi Guy,s

Sorry I have just checked and infact its an SR2... OK in
an attempt to sort this out I called out a generator
company, unfortunately they have not been able to
rectify or identify the problem :-( the only thing we did
prove is the FCS (fuel control solenoid) is actually
working fine.

In a desperate attempt to solve this I changed LCR, DR,

LCC and C as we had already put in new D/1 and LC/4.
The only other components I can think of changing are
the CH and K/1, I have a wiring diagram that's very
similar to our system but with a few little differences
like variable capacitors one of these called LCT?

I robbed the components from our 3Kw Startomatic box

(just hope I can replace them!) I can swap out CH but
I don't have another K/1 as the 3Kw is a 12V circuit and
the 6KW is a 24V circuit so they are not
interchangeable.

I just cant figure out why it was working fine for about
a month and now its doing this? When we purchased it,
they had wired to the mains and backfeed blowing
many components that we changed. After a lot of
testing we got it working just fine, 1 thing that has
changed is the DC voltage across LCC this was 315DC
when first measured, I measured it again today and it is
ranging between 218 and 241DC. If I understand it
right the DC voltage should be constant and not
ramping up and down? the AC output has also dropped
from 240 to 215Ac.

Last but not least why would the contacts D/1 and LC/4
pulse, but when I hold up the FCS arm the Genni then

holds the contacts and works perfectly..... ?

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated
as I don't know which way to turn now. We are off grid
and this is our only source of power so its critical.

Newbie hi cindy have done some work start-o-matic generators,
one of the things you said was the line voltage has
dropped from 240v to 214v i think you have bad
Offline connection on the no load resistor which is mounted on
the left hand side of the grill check this first, the fuel
Posts: 1
solinoid has 2 coils wound together with a set of points
mounted on top under the round cover if these are not
making it will not pull the fuel rack and wont fire the
engine up hope this helps regards kevin
