Joints under External loads
Two types of joints based on functional
requirements
Joints for clamping: Functional requirement is
only to hold the parts together against forces
which tend to pull or slide them apart
Joints for pressure vessels and cylinder heads:
Functional requirement is to hold the parts
together and also making the joint leak proof.
Gaskets are used.
