Concept
Our aim was to make a special treasure box. So, we used our critical thinking and methodology
in order to achieve our idealized product. It was also necessary to approach our learned
objective (CLO AND PLO) of workshop for achieving an innovative object. We benefitted from
this task in several ways.

 It helped us learn shopping in wood market

 Manage Team work
 Achieve precision and quality of our work
 It may even help us earn money if introduced in household for safekeeping of jewelry.

Procedure

Step 1: Tools

Treasure chests in the pirate style with the rounded lid look a little tricky to make. This
project was technically woodworking but requires no real finesse. However, we had to access
to a power tool that only a woodworker would own: a table saw. This is really the only way we
could accurately rip lumber. A jigsaw is handy (though a fine-toothed handsaw would work
perfectly well). We required a hand plane, and a hammer and a nail gun. Some ratcheting tie-
downs were useful, but there were lots of other ways to apply the pressure to glue this project
together. Oh yes, some PVA wood glue. For marking we used pencil.

3
Step 2: Pick a Length and Rip Your Boards

You have to decide how long your treasure chest should be. We just picked the length that
would allow us to waste as little wood as possible - We had old six-foot long cedar boards, so I
cut the rot off each end and got two lengths out of each piece. The wood I used was nominally
10 x 1, but it varied wildly in width and thickness.

Organizing things well, you won't waste much wood at all.

How wide do you make each board? Well, some simple circle geometry: you will need 10
boards to bring them around in a semicircle (9 joins between 10 boards, each join 2 x 10
degrees, so 9 x 2 x 10 = 180 degrees) and leave the outside boards vertical; We used 9 boards if
you're not fussed with this final requirement. The longest edge of your trapezoid is one
eighteenth of a circumference, and the circumference of a circle is related to its diameter by pi
(~3.14). So, the width of our treasure chest will be 18/pi (about 6) x the length of the longest
edge. So, for example, if your long edge is 2", your treasure chest will be a little less than 1'
wide.
To make your life easier, our treasure chest should be no more than twice as wide as your
widest board. You'll see why in the next step.

Step 3: Make the Ends

We generate the pattern for the. We were precise and careful to help us achieve better look.
Cut to the inside line using a jigsaw or handsaw (my floor looked as in the picture after this
step). Use the cut end piece as template for the other end .

Step 4: Nail and Glue

Glue and nail the boards to the end pieces and each other. We hammered nails but a nail gun is
preferred. We need to punch the nails below the surface.

Step 5: Make the Box to Match

The box must be the same size as the lid, whatever that happens to be. The depth is also
optional - We just used the width of the old cedar boards we used to make the lid. Same for the
base. Again, glue and nail; We didn’t use clamps for support due to its unavailability at
university. At last we installed hinges and then lock.

4
Step 6: Assemble secret compartment

We first made two wooden blocks which had size equal to base of our box. According to
solidworks design we assembled both wooden blocks with gap of 8 cm with help of support.
Assuring that only due to friction secret compartment box can be removed from one way we
fit/assemble the blocks into box.

Hence, we managed to accomplish our task of making treasure box with secret compartment.

Benefit of secret compartment

Everyday items with secret compartments provide one of the most creative ways of hiding prized
possessions. Plainly speaking, it’s hiding valuables in plain sight. Whether you have a few closely
guarded secrets, limited space or you simply like admiring surprises, disguised safes will give you
a perfect and fun alternative of keeping your valuables under wraps.
With a common burglar known to spend just about six minutes in a house or a car, you don’t
need to stash your stuff under a mattress. You don’t even need to lock them away in a bolted
safe box when there are plenty of double lives of design objects that provide awesome home
security diversion safes

Gun owners know how important it is to keep firearms safely secured in the home. Oftentimes,
securing firearms means buying a large gun safe, but gun safes are obvious targets for
determined thieves and can be a challenge to access quickly. Hidden compartment furniture
offers another option.

The benefit of hidden compartment furniture is that firearms can be safely concealed in an
unassuming location that no thief would ever think to examine closely. Since the concealment

offers a measure of safety, firearms hidden in secret compartments don't have to be locked
away and can be easily accessed by a homeowner in the event of an emergency.

Given these benefits, several companies are now offering hidden compartment furniture that is
easy to install and provides safe and quickly accessible storage solutions. Here are three of
them.
