Teleprotection in IP Networks (Packet switched)

„Bandwidth starvation“
„Non-deterministic transmission time“

IP Network

„Different routes“

„Packet loss“

• Ethernet and IP offer various “QoS” mechanisms, like traffic

prioritization, service differentiation, VPN etc.
• Meshed networks provide a high degree of flexibility
• But will the network guarantee the requested end-to-end
performance ?  proper engineering of the network is mandatory !

NSD570 – 1+1 Path Protection (III)

With main / standby operating mode

line interface in TPE 1 (slot N28) provides the main channel
line interface in TPE 2 (slot N58) provides the standby channel

Analog interface, digital line interfaces of each type (G.703, RS-530,

E1/T1, optical) or Ethernet interface can be mixed with each other
The line interface with the shorter transmission time should be used as
“main” communication channel (TPE 1)

„Main Channel Failure“ and „Standby Channel Failure“ can be signaled

on any of the relay interface outputs
indicating hardware and/or link alarm in the corresponding channel

Entry in both event recorders of the line interfaces if:

line interface is switched from active to inactive or vice versa

1+1 Path Protection with LAN Line Interface G3LE is only

possible from Rel. 3.33 onwards!
If 1+1 Path Protection with 2xG3LD is used then a maximum of
