DISKLESS CLIENT SOLUTION SYSTEM FOR COMPUTER LABORATORIES

Almoite, Valencia & Vicente . (MARCH 2017).

The purpose of the study was to propose and develop a diskless client solution system for

computer laboratories, that will help computer laboratory administrators, and other

computer related profession and industries to maintain and monitor the working

performance of the computer units.

The objectives of the study are the following:

1. To identify the current process of a common client – server network in terms of

booting and installation

2. To determine the issues encountered in a computer laboratory connected in a

network with individual hard disk drive.

3. To describe the features to be incorporated in the proposed system.

4. To illustrate the system requirements needed to implement the proposed system.

The researchers used different tools for data gathering and data analysis. Their

method shows the client booting system data flow which the diskless client solution

system was aimed to improve. They used the advantage of internet for data

gathering; they used it to download relevant information about their study which is

very convenient and relevant. Their data was creatively presented through the use

of system flow chart and data flow diagram. The system flow chart displays how

data flows in a system and how decisions are made to control events. The data flow

diagram illustrates the process flow of the proposed system.

The researchers discussed their findings and each data they gathered in

details with the used of diagrams and charts. They thoroughly state each issue they

find in their data gathering and observation, and explain it in details.

The conclusions they had drawn was accurate to their findings. Their conclusions are the

following:

1. The current process of a common client – server network is the traditional method of

booting, installing and configuring network architecture.

2. The current process of a common client – server network delivers some issues need

to be minimized if not eliminated.

3. The proposed system provides a cost efficient solution by implementing a diskless

client technology for computer laboratories.

4. The proposed system needs minimum requirements to implement the system.

These conclusions lead the researchers to the following recommendations:

1. Regular update on the server’s specification depending on where it will be

implemented considering the number of client that will be connected to the network.

2. Provision of back-up server in case of unnecessary power interruptions and server

failure.

3. Further improvement of the proposed system is highly recommended.

These recommendations they had come up had at least justified the purpose and

significance of their study.
