You will be working in an environment where there is a strong emphasis on team work, supervision from
the Clinical Director and CPD. You will report daily to the Hospital Director. You will be responsible for
individual and group interventions, diagnostic and cognitive assessments, MDT working, risk assessments,
facilitate staff reflective practice sessions and will be requested to design and deliver training.
You will be part of a network of 6 sites within specialist services with shared expertise and support from a
widely skilled and experienced set of clinicians

As an clinical/forensic psychologist, you will have experience and knowledge in carrying a service users
caseload, including assessing service users with complex needs, and designing and delivering specialist
psychological treatment within mental health care services.

Ballington House is a 13 bedded locked rehabilitation service in Leek. The Limes is an 18 bedded male
locked rehabilitation service and the Farndon Unit is a low secure 48 bedded service The services have
compassion-focussed therapy with positive behavioural support model in place. They support service users
with a number of presenting difficulties from high levels of personality difficulties to significant enduring
mental health issues, this group often have a traumatic background with significant emotional difficulties
as well as risk associated with this to self and others

Our Clinical/Forensic Psychologist role involves:
.
 Supporting the provision of psychology services in a specified area, in collaboration with multidisciplinary
teams, and under the direction and supervision of a Senior/Principal/Consultant or Lead Psychologist.
 Participating fully with the multidisciplinary team and ensuring that the patient is fully engaged in their
care pathway
 Supporting clinical team working, including both direct interventions and the delivery of staff training
programmes
 Supporting the clinical team and area of service in developing new initiatives and ways of working
 Working with internal and external agencies in order to enhance treatment pathways for patients

To be successful as a Clinical/Forensic Psychologist, you’ll
need:
.
 Competence in assessing, formulating and working therapeutically with patients in the service area
 To effectively communicate, at both written and oral level, complex and sensitive information, taking into
account the recipients
 Up to date knowledge of legislation and its implications for the profession and the client groups we work
with
 Ability to identify and proactive resolve problems and challenges within the service
 To develop competency in supervising Assistant Psychologists within the department, ensuring that they
are meeting professional practice expectations and the BPS code of ethics
 Ability to supervise non-psychology colleagues in areas of psychological application
 Successful completion of a Doctorate in either Clinical or Forensic Psychology or the British
Psychological Society’s stage 2 training in Forensic Psychology, enabling registration with the HCPC as as
Practitioner Psychologist
 Registration with the HCPC as a practitioner Psychologist and Charterable status with the British
Psychological Society
 Knowledge and understanding of working with Trauma
 Experience (either pre-training, on training, or subsequently) of working with clients with complex needs
that are relevant to the population in the service area
 Competency in psychological assessment and formulation skills and an aptitude for learning new
assessment methods.
 Competency as regards risk assessment/management tools and formulation
 Experience using CBT skills to address a range of clinical and/or forensic issues
