THE WORLD OF NATURAL ESSENTIAL OILS

WELCOME TO OUR
MANUFACTURING DIVISION SITE
LET’S EXPLORE HOW THE WORLD GETS ITS
BEST NATURAL ESSENTIAL OILS
STEAM DISTILLATION METHOD

When steam distillation is used in the manufacture and extraction of essential oils, the botanical material is placed in
a still and steam is forced over the material.

The hot steam helps to release the aromatic molecules from the plant material since the steam forces open the
pockets in which the oils are kept in the plant material. The molecules of these volatile oils then escape from the
plant material and evaporate into the steam.

The steam which then contains the essential oil, is passed through a cooling system to condense the steam, which
forms a liquid from which the essential oil and water is then separated.

The water separated by the process is further a product that adds to the category of Hydrosols or sometimes into
floral waters too.

The boiler tanks functions as a ignition process for the essential oil

extractor in this method. The raw material is put in the burner, the extraction

process starts as the material gets heated and converted into steam.

The steam is carefully maintained for the plants and the raw material to

Leave the essential oil.

CONDENSATION/DISTILLATION/SEPARATION

The steam which gets extracted contains the

essential oil which is then cooled in the condensation

process in this cylindrical tunnel, which forms a liquid

from which the essential oil and water is then separated.

The essential oil is then collected in the separate tank

SOLVENT EXTRACTION METHOD

Most flowers contain too little volatile oil to undergo expression; their chemical
components are too delicate and easily denatured by the high heat used in steam
distillation. Instead, a solvent such as hexane or supercritical carbon dioxide is used to
extract the oils. Extracts from hexane and other hydrophobic solvents are called concretes,
which are a mixture of essential oil, waxes, resins, and other lipophilic (oil-soluble) plant
material.

The use of solvents gives a higher yield and also keeps the more water-soluble components
intact, which would otherwise be lost in distillation. Extracts from hexane and other
hydrophobic solvent are called concretes, which are a mixture of essential oil, waxes,
resins, and other lipophilic (oil soluble) plant material.
SOLVENT EXTRACTION PROCESS

Although highly fragrant, concretes contain large quantities of

non-fragrant waxes and resins. Often, another solvent, such as

ethyl alcohol, which is more polar in nature, is used to extract

the fragrant oil from the concrete. The alcohol is removed by

evaporation, leaving behind the absolute. Absolutes are a

slightly less expensive essential oil extraction method than

enfleurage.
FRACTIONAL DISTILLATION METHOD

It is a distillation in which rectification is used to obtain product as nearly pure as possible.

Fractionation is carried out at reduced pressure and usually by distilling the oil alone,
without leading the water into the retort or injecting live steam into the oil.

● The liquid mixture is placed in the storage tank and is heated, the oil heats up and gets
fractionated in the process as shown in the 1st Pic.
● The fractionated oil is then condensed through water in the process further as shown
in 2nd Pic.
● The condensed liquid is then extracted in last flask as the desired pure essential Oil as
shown in 3rd Pic.
