Errol Merquita is one of the most awarded writers in different genres.

He
wrote various literatures including the Tagulilong: Ang mga Nawawala that was
a heartbreaking poetry consisting 13 poems.
Tagulilong: Ang mga Nawawala is one of the most amazing non-fiction
work that he wrote. He combined 13 poems that tackles different issues in the
Philippines. The first poem entitles Tagulilong. During reading the first poem
we are confused in the following lines because it uses a word “Tagulilong”
which means a power to vanish without knowing the reason. Much later, when
we read the last 3 stanzas of the first poem,
“Halimbawa ay bigas
sa palayan ng bayan
ng Kidapawan,
hindi nakikita
at ayaw ipakita,
sa mga taong
gutom sa kalsada.

Halimbawa ay agila,
tinitirador ng iilan
at kinakalbo ang tirahan.
Halimbawa ay Lumad,
lumikas sa tahanang lupa,
dahil may nagmimina
at nagpapalitan ng bala.”
We figure out that the main focus on the different poems are the issues
in the Philippines. As we observed in those poems written by Errol Merquita,
the most mentioned is rice that was based on the disastrous event happened
on Kidapawan on 2016, a widespread El Niño occurred and it affects huge
farms in Kidapawan.
