CHAPTER 4

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS, and RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter shows the main points of the study, the solution to the proposed problem, and

the suggestions of the researchers on future actions.

Summary

In this research the plant’s response to diaper gel was investigated. The study was

conducted not only to have better crops, but also to find a solution to lessen the expenses of

farmers, to reduce pollution in using fertilizers, to avoid crop devastation during droughts, and to

increase efficiency in growing quality crops. Diaper gel was the fertilizer chosen by the researchers

because it is readily available and non-toxic. Two treatments were used in the study; for the first

treatment, three bitter gourd plants were grown with a 100% concentration of diaper gel, and on

the second treatment, another three bitter gourd plants were grown a 100% concentration of

commercial fertilizer. The six plants were observed and are located at the BHC Educational

Institution Inc., Sevilla Center, City of San Fernando, La Union. The researchers used the Control

Group Design for the research study in determining the efficacy of diaper gel as an alternative

fertilizer to bitter gourd plants. The data compared was the significant differences and efficacy of

diaper gel as an alternative fertilizer to chickens in terms of vine length, leaf lushness, and leaf

vibrancy. The experimentation lasted for three months.

Conclusions

Based on the results and the data gathered, the average vine length, leaf lushness, and leaf

vibrancy of the bitter gourd plants receiving diaper gel were greater than that of the bitter gourd

plants grown with commercial fertilizer. There are also no significant difference in vine length, leaf
lushness, and leaf vibrancy between bitter gourd plants grown with diaper gel and commercial

fertilizer.

The findings supported that there is no significant difference between the diaper gel

fertilizer and commercial fertilizer to bitter gourds in terms of vine length, leaf lushness, and leaf

vibrancy. The findings may be explained by the fact that diaper gel and commercial fertilizer has

similar effects when it comes to promoting plant growth and development. Diaper gel requires less

chemical inputs on the soil and facilitates the incorporation of residues that would otherwise go to

dumping sites and landfills, which represents relevant reductions on the environmental impacts

associated with agricultural activities. It also presents a water reservoir ability which commercial

fertilizers cannot act as.

Recommendations

The researchers conducted this study to determine the efficacy of diaper gel as an

alternative fertilizer to bitter gourd plants in terms of vine length, leaf lushness, and leaf vibrancy.

The researchers have provided recommendations for further research to guide those who wish to

conduct similar researches:

1. Use an easy-to-observe plant as a plant medium to avoid delays in data gathering.

2. Don’t use too much diaper gel to avoid overflowing of the pots.

3. Other investigations may be done using different kinds of plants.

4. Try adding more treatments too further see if other combinations of fertilizers would yield

a significantly different result.

5. Try using different proportions of diaper gel to see if there would be changes on the results.

6. Provide a safe area that has enough sunlight to observe the plants to avoid accidents and

problems that might occur during the observation time.
