Dear Achieve Families,
As we finish up our 7th week of school, my focus has turned to our student attendance.
So far, our daily attendance rates are strong, with an average of 98% of students in attendance,
yet some of our students are beginning to experience chronic absences and it is only October.
Poor student attendance and chronic tardies lead to a negative impact on student growth and
achievement, increase risks of high school dropouts and can influence whether or not a child is
reading at grade level by the end of 3rd grade. At Achieve, we have many incentives for student
attendance and policies around extended absences. When students miss school excessively (8 or
more absences in one school year) the impact on our students can be devastating. Our students
who experienced 8 or more absences in the 2018-2019 school year experienced a rate of
growth on NWEA of 17% less than our students who did not experience excessive absences. We
cannot continue to support excessive absences as a school community! Currently, we have 23
students who are experiencing chronic absenteeism. This would include any student who has
been absent 4 or more days so far this school year, which equals 13% of the school year so far.
As you make plans for vacations, please look at our school calendar. We are not able to
make up missed instruction and cannot replace what your child has missed out on academically.
Please use our summer months for extended vacations to better support your child. Any ab-
sence over three consecutive days must be approved by me, you may pick up forms in the office.
I will not approve more than 10 days of consecutive absences, and will not approve extended
absences for two consecutive years in a row. You will receive a letter updating you if your child’s
attendance is a concern. If your child’s attendance continues to be a concern, you will meet with
the dean to create an attendance correction action plan. Finally, if a plan does not address our
concerns, we will have a meeting to discuss next steps and consequences.
Thank you for partnering with us and supporting our efforts in ensuring high daily at-
tendance rates at our school to benefit our students! Our students deserve the education we
offer and need our support to ensure they are attending school on a daily basis.

Morning Drop Off
Please have your child ready to get out of the car when you
stop your vehicle in the morning. Many children are still putting
shoes on, finishing breakfast and gathering items needed for
the day. This holds up all of our families and our drop off line.

 Calling All Dads! Watchdogs is kicking off!
Achieve's Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) Program is a family and community engagement educational initiative. There
are 2 primary goals of our Watchdog Program.
1. To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2. To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.

We invite all Achieve fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures to sign-up to volunteer for at least one day each school
year as a WatchDOG. During the day, WatchDOGS may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with
students, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow and any other assigned activities where they are actively
engage with not only their own students, but other students as well.

- Click on Volunteer
- Click on Sign Up to Volunteer
- Complete the Volunteer form and click Submit.

All participants need to bring their athletic forms and physicals along with gym shoes and gym clothes.
All participants MUST be picked up at the conclusion of their tryout. No siblings are permitted at tryouts.
Boys Varsity Basketball tryouts are not after school therefore all boys who wish to try out must go home and come back or be supervised by a
parent, guardian or teacher who chooses to be responsible for them after school.
