OBJECTIVE
Modify the existing pipeline distribution for cooling water supply according to equipment
capacity.
• To design pipeline distribution system as per process requirement
• To provide suggestions on improving the efficiency of the system

Summary
We use recirculating cooling water systems i.e. cooling tower, for waste heat disposal.
One of the objectives of this case is to design and operate the cooling water system at
high thermal performance and achieve the required flow-rate by the equipments. In order
to identify system improvement opportunities, it is helpful to understand some common
losses and avoidable costs. For a given system, there are usually a variety of improvement
opportunities. Consequently, there are many different ways to improve the system
performance. In order to achieve maximum improvement at the lowest cost, a systems
approach should be used.

Case Description and Problem Statement

At present we are having 1000 TR capacity of cooling tower, from where the cooling water
is been distributed to the desired equipments refer Fig-1.

Objective is to suggest the appropriate pump capacity and the line size required by the
reactors to acquire the desired flow rate. Details required (i.e. pictorial representation,
length of pipeline, flow rate required by reactors, material of construction of pipe,
number of valves and bends) to fulfil the requirement are provided in Annexure.
