6. Solve Question 9 OR Questions No. 10.
7. Solve Question 11 OR Questions No. 12.
8. Due credit will be given to neatness and adequate dimensions.
9. Assume suitable data whenever necessary.
10. Illustrate your answers whenever necessary with the help of neat sketches.

1. a) Draw & explain 1000 line exchange in detail. 8

b) Explain with neat diagram crossbar switching system. 6

OR

2. a) Draw and explain uniselector & two motion selector switch used in strowger exchange. 7

b) Differentiate between local battery & central battery system. 4

c) Describe the different tones used in automatic exchange. 3

3. a) Explain the following terms related with the traffic engineering. 6

i) Busy hour. ii) Busy hour call attempts.
iii) Holding time. iv) Busy hour calling rate.

b) During the busy hour, 1200 calls were offered to a group of tanks & six calls were lost. 7
The average call duration was 3 minutes. Find:
i) The traffic offered. ii) The traffic carried.
iii) The traffic lost. iv) The grade of service.
v) The total duration of the periods of congestion.

OR

4. a) Explain the effect of various parameters on traffic performance. 7

b) A PBX has three operators on duty & receives 400 calls during the busy hour. Incoming 6
calls enter a queue and are dealt with in order of arrival. The overage time taken by an
operator to handle a call is 18 seconds. Call arrivals are poissonian and operator service
times have a negative exponential distribution.
i) What percentage of calls have to wait for an operator to answer them?
ii) What is overage delay, for all calls & for those which encounter delay?
iii) What percentage of calls are delayed for more than 30 seconds?
