I. RATIONALE

Currently here in the Philippines an issue about gender equality is surfacing

not only for women and men but also for the LGBTQ+ Community, a term used to mention

all of the communities comprising the LGBTTTQQIAA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,

Transgender, Transsexual, Two-Spirit, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, Ally)

Community, (OK2BME 2019). The main reason for proposing the Sexual Orientation and

Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) Equality Bill or Anti-Discrimination Bill (ADB), an

act that guarantees their safety and rights equally to everyone else by defining such

conception like sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. Plus, setting

practices and consequences to avoid discriminatory and unlawful performances in

accordance to the bill (Deslate N.d.). Unfortunately, this proposition is not yet been

approved.

As first year students in BS Digital Illustration and Animation, of College of

Computer Studies here in Ateneo de Naga University, the students strive to contribute to

the betterment of the society by creating an alternative to subdue the issues regarding to
this, which is executing an advocacy exhibit, entitled, Gender Bender, bending the gender

stereotypes (i.e. cross dressing, androgyny, work roles, gender expression) formed by the

customs in the society, a requirement in SOCS101- Art Appreciation.

This suggested art exhibit will give knowledge that will help the faculties and

students of Ateneo de Naga University to understand how gender stereotyping affect an

individual and the society. Whilst, providing tips and instructions to prevent it. Given that,

it will also make people remove harmful gender norms. Founding an environment good

for everybody without discrimination regarding to their preferences. Moreover, the art

exhibit will benefit the people to not to be conscious of what colors and articles of clothing

they should apply as well as how should they react or express themselves to others. It can

have a great aftermath on people, especially on the people of LGBTQ+ community.

Besides it will support the economy, because people will avoid difficulties in finding

apparel suiting to standard dress code of the society that matches their taste of clothing. It

could also help in terms of the production and consumption of goods and services, and the

supply of products fitting for all types of gender. Another fascinating advantage of it, is

that it provides information about other uses of artworks as a medium to create a

breakthrough concerning gender stereotypes. By doing so, it may require interest among

artist in the society for them to showcase their talents. And with that information this art

exhibit can serve as a useful reference to test the potential of artworks in promoting

awareness about gender stereotypes. Which can be a guide to open the development of the

other uses of artwork in the society.

II. OBJECTIVES

The proposed art exhibit wants to attain the objectives enumerated below:

 To raise awareness about gender equality and gender roles in the society by

providing ample knowledge or information concerning this issue.

 To impose fairness and enhanced the comprehensive standards based on gender

differences that promote the voices of all genders about their rights, encouraging

them to express themselves more.

 To abolish inequality and judgelike acts, preventing bullying and discrimination

that will maintain the goodness of humanity in terms of acceptance and behavior

towards others.

 To engage the audience about the issue on genders through appreciating various

artworks to represent it, creating a fun and joyful learning experience.

 To understand the impact of art as an aid to fix societies issues, recognizing it as a
