SAMICAPOR Grades with Accelerator

366.55-10 315.33
366.55-20 374.15

General Samicapor grades with accelerator are based upon micapaper (Samica)
impregnated with a metallic salt accelerator, zinc naphtanate.
The impregnated Samica is backed with woven glass, for Samicapor
366.55-10, 366.55-20 and 374.15 grades.
An additional facing of polyester fleece is applied to Samicapor 374.15
grade.
Samicapor 315.33 is backed with polyester film, instead of woven glass.

Application Samicapor grades with accelerator are used for the complete bar or coil
main insulation of all electrical rotating machines, processed by the
Vacuum Pressure Impregnation method (VPI), up to the very highest
operating voltage levels.
The woven glass backed grades may be used at all voltage levels.
In practice the grades containing polyester film backing, and with
uncatalysed VPI resin, are normally limited to 11kV operation.
An essential feature of the use of Samicapor tapes with accelerator is that
the VPI resin is stored and applied without catalyst, ensuring tank stability of
the resin.

Main Characteristics Samicapor 366.55-10

Samicapor 366.55-10 is the grade with the widest application range of the
Samicapor tapes with accelerator for coil insulation.
Samicapor 366.55-10 is soft, dry and flexible with very little dusting on
application.
Samicapor 366.55-20
Samicapor 366.55-20 is the preferred grade for very thick wall coil
impregnation and for all bars.
Samicapor 315.33
Samicapor 315.33 is most frequently used in the medium - high voltage
range.
Samicapor 374.15
Samicapor 374.15 is a tough, flexible product suitable for use on simple
taping machines and for hand application by less experienced staff.
The high polyester content of the product restricts its use to medium
voltage levels when used throughout.
Samicapor 374.15 is most widely used as end winding tape, or as flexible
lead insulation.

Processing In all applications the Samicapor tape should be applied half lap with the
backing (woven glass or film) to the outside of the coil after application.
The tapes can be applied at ambient temperature without the need for
warming either the coil or the tape.
The tapes should be applied smoothly and without wrinkles at a tension of
approx. 15 -20 N /mm.
When applied as recommended, a natural precompression takes place and
no further sizing is required for coil manufacture.
For very long thick wall turbo bars with precise clearances, cold sizing may
be advantageous.
The vacuum pressure impregnation cycle should be as recommended in
our 3407 epoxy anhydride data sheet or according to the recommendations
for the installed resin.
A finishing layer of Epoflex P 324.02 or 324.03 should be applied to assist
the resin retention of the coil and to minimise the risk of wash out of the
accelerator into the bulk impregnating resin.
Please refer to our Epoflex P data sheet.

Properties The properties of the vacuum pressure impregnated Samicapor tapes

with accelerator are entirely dependent upon the impregnating resin and the
impregnation cycle used.
With careful selection of the resin and impregnation cycle, bars, coils or
whole machines will meet the most stringent of international electrical
standards for rotating machines.

Similar Products Samicapor tapes with accelerator are for use only with vacuum pressure
impregnating resins such as VRI 3407 or other compatible epoxy anhydride
systems.
When the VPI resin is catalysed epoxy, polyester modified epoxy resin, or
polyesterimide resin we recommend that our Samicapor tapes without
accelerator are used.
The Samicapor series without accelerator includes:
Samicapor 366.58, 366.58-18, 366.58-20.
Differing thicknesses of woven glass backed Samica with a low bond
content of epoxy resin.
Samicapor 366.53-01
Woven glass backed grade based upon calcined muscovite Samica for
high intrinsic electrical strength, suitable where the thinnest practicable
insulation is needed e.g. railway traction.
Samicapor 315.42 and 315.45
Polyester film backed products . Lowest cost constructions.
Samicapor 323.12
A sandwich construction of polyester film backed Samica faced with
polyester fleece. Easy to apply.
Samicapor 374.04
As Samicapor 323.12, with woven glass replacing the polyester film
backing.

Storage and Shelf Life Samicapor products should be stored in cool, clean, dry conditions in their
original wrappings.
When stored correctly the shelf life of Samicapor 366.55-20 is 24 months
at 20°C, and for Samicapor 315.33, 366.55-10, 374.15 shelf life is 12
months.

Mode of Supply Samicapor tapes with accelerator are normally supplied as 50m long rolls,
without interleaving, in widths from 15mm, on 55mm un-notched plastic
centres.
Many taping machines require specific centres and VRI have a range of
special centre sizes dedicated to particular taping machines.
Non standard rolls are available upon enquiry.

Health and Safety The normal handling precautions for products containing epoxy resin
should be followed.
The use of barrier creams and thorough hand washing are recommended.
