Isolated ground bar (50% or 100%)

ABB offers a 50% or 100% fully isolated ground for systems
where ground isolation is required such as systems with heavy
microprocessors, based loads or large computer based
installations. The continuity is maintained through the joint pack.

Double neutral (200% option)

ABB offers a fully rated 200% neutral option for busway systems
with non-linear loads.

Straight lengths

Feeder length Straight lengths

Straight lengths include feeder lengths and plug-in lengths
with busplug slots.

Busplug slots allow busplug units to be plugged into the busway

run. The busplug slot outlet and cover are made from a durable,
high strength, Class B, 130 °C insulation material.

The busplug slot cover is designed to prevent access to the

contacts behind the cover and prevent the entry of dirt, dust
or moisture. With a standard busplug unit or fitted cover the
Ingress Protection (IP) levels are at IP40 to IP55. IP67 for
feeder lengths are available upon request.
Plug-in length
Straight lengths can be supplied from a minimum of 2 ft and
up to a maximum of 10 slots can be provided on a 12 ft length
(5 on the front and 5 on the back). The table below illustrates

These can be used to turn the busway route up or down if it is

running on its edge, or to turn the busway left and right if it is
running on its flat.

Flanges

Flange connections
Flange connections provide a direct connection to low voltage
switchgear, transformer enclosures and other electrical
equipment. Cut out details, dimensions and drilling plans are
provided with the customer drawings and it is the responsibility
of the switchgear manufacturer to provide the opening, drill
fixing holes, connecting hardware and busway risers in their
equipment.

Switchgear can be provided upon request. For more information,

x contact ABB.

For proper coordination between the busway system and the

equipment, detailed drawings, including switchgear phase
rotation, must accompany the order. Standard flanges can be
offset to the left or right of the section as required.

Combination flanges
A flange combination elbow is a combination of a standard
elbow and a standard flange. Flange combination elbows are
typically used when the minimum leg lengths for either the
standard elbow or the standard flange cannot be maintained.

Flatwise tees
Flatwise tees are used to split one busway run into two runs
x going in different directions. This can be very useful in utilizing a
small amount of space and supplying two different areas of a
building with power. Flatwise tees are a combination of a feeder
length and a flatwise elbow.

Expansion units
Expansion units are fittings used to accommodate the expansion and contraction of
a busway system and building movement. Expansion units are typically installed in
the center of long busway runs, and might also be used at the beginning of riser runs
to minimize the stress on the lower section of the busway run. Another common use
is where a busway crosses an expansion joint of a building.

Expansion units are recommended when a straight busway run exceeds 60m.

Expansion units allow for a 40mm movement along the length of the busway.

Joint packs are used to connect all the components in a busway

system together, from feeder lengths to flatwise tees.

The ground is maintained through the joint, both by the joint

pack cover and by the ground side plate. The joint pack is
supplied in specific sizes depending on the rating of busway
required.

During installation, when the joint is torqued properly, the

first head of the nut will break off and the red indicator disk
will fall away.

If any red disks are still present after installation, the joints
have not been properly secured.

Critical details
• Busway drawing must have all relevant dimensions.
• Center-line dimensions are standard, please highlight any
dimensions that are not center-line dimensions.
• Walls and floors must be located, shown and dimensioned.
• The front of all switchboards must be given and the phasing
for any existing boards provided.
• Transformer connections require full details.
• When using rising busway, please note the phase orientation
of the plug-in sections.
• Horizontal plug-in busway positioned on its flat must always
be oriented with the neutral phase to the top.
