A SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 8

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the student is expected to:
 Define what is Japanese Literature
 Know the content of the “Aged Mother”, a folklore from Japan
 Enable to unlock unfamiliar words in the story
 Know the moral of the story that is applicable to real-life situation.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


 Title: Appreciating Japanese Literature
 Reference:
 Materials: Laptop, TV, book, whiteboard, marker

III. PROCEDURE
A. REVIEW
 The teacher asks the students about Japan, and if the students have any idea
about Japanese Literature and the students must share their thoughts and
experiences.

B. MOTIVATION
 The teacher starts off with a spelling test. The words are found from the
story that will be taught to the students later in the lesson proper.
 The teacher asks the students to get ¼ sheet of paper and starts with the
spelling test.
 The class will check their papers then the teacher will provide in the power
point the meaning of the unfamiliar words.

C. LESSON PROPER
 The teacher lets the students to open their book on page 124 and instructs
them to read the story of the “Aged Mother” for 15 minutes.
 After reading, the teacher will group students into 5 and lets the latter form
a circle by group.
 The teacher will ask students to deliver the chain of events according to the
picture shown in the TV monitor.
 After the activity, the teacher will ask students some questions regarding
from the story:
-What disrupted the peaceful life of the poor farmer and his mother?
-If you were the farmer, would you have obeyed the law or proclamation?
Why?
-Do you think that the farmer truly loved his mother?

D. EVALUATION
 The teacher will write on the board, 2 questions, and the students will be
instructed to copy and answer in a ¼ sheet of paper. This will determine if
the students have understood the moral of the story.
Questions:
1. Is it true that when old age comes, a person becomes useless and
irrelevant?
2. Have your parents shown their love for you? How?

E.
 The teacher will ask students to make an essay about their parents/
guardians. A rubric will also be provided (see below).
