I. Objectives
i. CONTENT STANDARD: The learner demonstrates communicative competence through his/ her
understanding of Afro-Asian Literature and other texts types for a deeper appreciation of Philippine
Culture and those of other countries.
ii. LEARNING COMPETENCY: Recognize positive and negative messages conveyed in a text
(EN8SS-11e-1.2)
iii. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
At the end of one-hour class discussion, the students should be able to:
1. Determine the pictures that conveys positive and negative message
2. Recognize positive and negative messages conveyed in a text
3. Share a picture-essay that expresses a message to remain positive despite the pandemic

A. ACTIVITY
Preliminaries: (prayer, checking of attendance, setting of house rules)
Review: Compare and contrast own opinions with those presented in familiar texts(EN8SS-
11e-1.2)
Activity 1. Take a look for the conversation of John and Martha.

Questions:
1. What is your opinion to the conversation of John and Martha?
2. Compare what the texts are trying to convey.
3. Who conveyed a positive message? Why did you say so?
4. Who conveyed a negative message? Why did you say so?

Possible Answers:
1. John and Martha shows different reaction in answering the modules.
2. John showed difficulty in answering the module and depended on the answer key while
Martha was trying to convince John not to cheat.
3. Martha conveyed a positive message because she believed that she can answer the
modules without looking for the answer key.
4. John conveyed a negative message because he was dependent on the answer key in
answering his modules.

Motivation: Identify each picture by writing PLUS on the space provided if it denotes a positive
message and MINUS if it conveys a negative message. Then cite your reason.

3. How can we differentiate a positive and a negative message?
4. If you were to identify whether a message in a text is positively or negatively intended, how
would you do it? Would you just rely on the words that are used in the sentences, or
depend on the intention conveyed?

You have two options for this activity. And, be guided with the rubrics below and explain how it
inspired you.

Option A. If you have a Facebook account or have access to the internet, print a photo that
inspired you to remain positive despite the pandemic. Paste the and explain how it inspired you.

Option B. If you do not have access to the internet or a printer, cut a photo from magazines,
newspapers, or any similar reading materials available, that inspired you to remain positive despite
the pandemic. Paste the photo and explain how it inspired you.
