Maryam challenges herself physically

Child/Hine: Maryam. Teachers/Kaiako: Jane. Date: 25 November/Whiringa-a-rangi 2019

This month you continued to explore your outdoor environment and big sister Bayan was
always nearby to oversee your adventures. In October you started attempting to climb the bars
beside the baby swing. In the beginning you needed a teacher to assist you. You persevered
and now you have mastered the challenge and you can do it all by yourself. You look so proud
of yourself when you reach the top. He pai to mahi - good work.
You have also discovered the joy of the slide. You needed encouragement and a reassuring
hand to start with. But with time and more practice you have learned to slide down
independently and revel in the thrill!

I noticed you playing with toys with small levers to lift and depress, and
buttons to press. Each time you pushed or lifted something interesting
happened. Maybe there was music, maybe there was a beeping noise,
maybe there were lights. That’s cause and effect!
In the photo you are joining in a game with me and the other nursery
children. To start with each of you chose a ball. Yours is made of
interlocking rings. It is colourful and feels interesting in your hand. We
sat on the floor and rolled the balls to each other. It was a little tricky
getting the ball to go exactly where your friend was sitting. That was
part of the fun though!
What learning has occurred?
Your learning pathway for term 4 is Exploring the world around me to discover and make
sense. This month you have learned about movement of your own body and of other objects.
You are moving confidently and deliberately. Ma shallah your coordination has improved. You
are challenging yourself physically. I really like the way you persist with a challenge. Kaua ma
te wae wae tukituki - persevere with determination. Another good quality is the way you accept
help until you are confident to do a task independently. You are getting more competent at
manipulating small objects.

Next Steps….
In the coming month we will give you more challenges to figure out. Our group theme is about
relationships. I hope you will be interested in exploring this theme with us!
