Abstract- The main objective of this project is to develop a home automation system using
Arduino board. As technology is advancing so houses are also getting smarter. Modern
houses are gradually shifting from conventional switches to centralized control system. The
smart home concept in the system improve the standard living at home .Currently
conventional wall switches located in different part of the house makes it difficult for the
user to go near them to operate. Even more it becomes more difficult for the elderly or
physically handicapped people to do so. The main attraction of home automation is reducing
human efforts and it is also good for security purpose.

Introduction
In today’s scenario, automation is growing and taking a place in each and every aspect of our
life. Nowadays, the machines in industries are getting fully automated, with such a widening
effect of automation in industries, home automation also comes into the scene. Home
automation gives an individual the ability to control the things around home remotely.
Automation reduces the human judgement and interference giving an ease to the individual.
The idea is implemented using a microcontroller to obtain various physical conditions by
connecting different sensors to it.

Overview of the Smart Home

The integrated sensors such as temperature sensor read the temperature value and then the
particular electrical appliance works based on the set parameters (in this case it is a temperature
controlled fan), the gas sensor detects smoke and cooking gas to avoid any fire outbreak. For
incorporating security the automatic door actuation is also there under its scope. This system is
not only restricted to the interiors of home but also it takes upon the exteriors, as the car parking
is done automatic, using the line follower principle. For better access from anywhere the whole
system can be interfaced to the internet.

System Analysis
Problem Definition
In the context of security, ease of home operation we can see that home automation is much
necessary. The main purpose of Home Automation is to create the easy accessibility of home
appliances and proper manageability of system. The proposed system has great ability to
increase the security and automation of most home appliances by using Arduino
microcontroller and its interfacing with different sensors.
System Design and Implementation
Line follower Robot
This concept is used to make the automatic parking system. Line follower robot is the combined
assembly of some components to make it follow the line accordingly. The sub components
used are L293D Motor Driver IC, Arduino Uno, Geared Motor*2, Robot chassis, IR Sensor
Module*2, Black Tape, Connecting wire, Power Supply. The working process of Line
Follower is the 2 IR sensor module which is mounted in the front of the line follower car track
the black path. So the main principle is that when LED light is emitting light. Light hit the
white surface and reflect back. These reflected light absorbed by the photo diode. So photo
diode send signal to the CPU module which make line follower to move at reflected direction.
Here the two geared motor is used which is connected to the CPU through motor driver. Motor
driver is used to project the motor according to the signal coming from IR Sensor. Here CPU
is used called Arduino. Arduino is the microprocessor in which programme are feed which
process the input signal and put the result as output.

Temperature-Humidity Controlled Fan

This concept is used to control the speed of Fan using humidity and temperature sensors. The
sub components used in this model is Humidity Sensor (DHT11), Temperature Sensor (LM35),
Display, Arduino UNO, 1 K resistor, Connecting Wire. The construction is DHT 11 and LM35
are sensors which provide the input signal to the Arduino. A 12V DC Fan and display is
connected to the Arduino which show the output. Arduino is working as interface between
input and output. A programme is feed in this which make output device work accordingly.
The working is that we have given a temperature range with efficiency in the programme feed
in Arduino so as sensors senses the temperature and humidity of surrounding environment
increases the output value is also increases. The controlling of DC is done by PWM. PWM is
used to control the voltage.

Gas Detecting Sensor

The concept of these system is to detect the burning gas in home. The sub component involved
in these system is Arduino UNO, MQ-2 Smoke detection sensor, Buzzer, Resistor. The
construction of system is a gas sensor (MQ-2) which act as input device which is connected to
the Arduino and by processing the input signal Arduino send the command to the output device
Buzzer which make it to work.

Conclusion
In this draft, a novel architecture for low cost and flexible home control and monitoring system
using a microcontroller and internet is proposed and implemented. The proposed architecture
utilizes arduino uno and pc for communicating between the remote user and the home devices.
