Introduction

 Task: The faculty of business and administration at the northern Caribbean

university for days has been scrutinizing the possibility of implementing a
network system at the institution to facilitate a faster and more reliable method of
communication and sharing resources.

 This project will attempt to provide pleas able and applicable solutions for
problems faced by the faculty of northern Caribbean University.

The answer provided a brief and in simple language with pictorials to enhance the
understanding of the answer.

1. Define a network.

Ans = a network is a set of computers and peripherals such as

printers, plotters, disk drives and modems that are linked together on a permanent
basis in order to create a vital communication system that permits the sharing and
free access to computer hardware and resources. The use of a network allows an
entity, such as scotia bank, to increase it’s productivity and efficiency through the
sharing of mass amount of data by the different sectors of the organization.eg
instead of marketing sector of a scotia bank branch using a different printer from
the administration sector- which would cast more, both sectors could use the same
printer, therefore a network would be establish. Which would reduce productive
cast and adding to efficiency?

2. State the advantages of implementing a network system at the faculty for about 30
computers.

Ans = (a) Enables users (faculty members) to share computer hardware’s such as
printers and scanners therefore decreasing the cast of production and improving of
output document.

(b) Easy access to data by users (faculty members) in order to keep and
maintain a vibrant system of communication. In other words a network system
helps to keep everyone up-to-date.
(c) Allow users to share software programs that may not be on a specific
computer but some where on the networking system. This reduces the efforts to
continue software’s by the system administrator. It also saves storage space.

3. State the transmission medium to be used to provide connectivity.

Ans = the coaxial cable

(a) State the reason(s) for your answer.

Ans = (1) It can be used to create a LAN networking system

(2) Not susceptible to interference, meaning it cannot or does not

allow other transmissions to interface with it`s transmission activity.

(3) Transfer of data is faster and safer then twisted pairs.

(4) Can accommodate both digicel and analog signal

5
4. State the topology to be used to layout the network.

Ans = the topology to be used is Bus topology.

(a) State the reason for your answer .

Ans = because this topology communicate in the same line and without having to go through
the server.

(b)State the purpose of using protocols on a network.

Ans = The purpose of using protocols on a network are to allow the input, output and
penpherod devices to communicate with each other so that network can run smoothly.
6
5. The faculty also requested video conferencing to be possible on the
network. Define video conferencing.

Ans = It allows participants to conduct visually interactive electronic

meetings between one or more distant location using video cameras, monitors
and communications. Video conferencing utilizes both audio and video
communication, enabling participants to see and hear each other as if they
were in the same room.

(a)state the advantages of video conferencing.

Ans = (1) It allows people to communicate with each other without being
at the same place at same times.
(2) It provides a mechanism for International Corporation to
conduct meeting.

(b)List all the equipment necessary to accommodate video conferencing.

Ans = (1) The code or coder-decoder (2) video equipment

(3) The audio (4) the control
7
6. State counteracting measures against virus attacks on a network.

Ans = (1) Downloading virus – protection software

(2) Using software that blocks users from certain virus – infected websites
