i. Concentrator
ii. Superscript
iii. Underscript

Answers

1. Repeaters
 operates at a physical layer and has 2 ports
 It generates the signal over the same network before the signal becomes too weak or
corrupted so as to extend the length to which the signal can be transmitted over a
network
 They do not amplify the signal. When the signal becomes weak, they copy the signal
bit by bit and generate it at the original length.

Hub
 It is a multi port repeater.
 It connects multiple wires coming from different branches e.g, the connector in a star
topology which connects different stations.
 There are 2 types, Active huand Passive hub
 Active hubs are hubs which have their own power supply and can clean, boost and
relay the signal along with the network.. Used to extend maximum distance between
nodes
 Passive hub connects wiring from nodes and power supply from active hub. They
relay signals onto network without cleaning and boosting them and can't be used to
extend the distance between nodes.

Switch
 It is a multiple bridge with a buffer and a design that can boost its efficiency and
performance
 It is a data link layer device.
 The switch can perform error checking before forwarding data, which makes it very
efficient as it does not forward packets that have errors and forward good packets
selectively to correct port only.

Router
 Selects the best path to route a message , based on the destination address and origin
 Translates information from one network to another
 Router normally connects LANs and WANs together and have a dynamically
updating routing table based on which they make decisions on routing the data
packets.
 It divides broadcasts domains of hosts connected through it.
 Routers can direct traffic to prevent head on collisions and knows when to direct
traffic along back roads and shortcuts.

Brouter
 It is a device which combines features of both bridge and route
 It can work either at data link layer or at network layer
 Working as a router, it is capable of routing packet across networks and working as a
bridge , it is capable of filtering local area network traffic.

1b)Slide show views that are used in the presentation software

 Normal ->. Displays your slides one at a time for easy editing
 Slide sorter ->. Displays slide thumbnails for all slides in the presentation
 Slide show. ->. Displays slides one at a time filling the whole screen.

1c). Animation is the process of designing , drawing, making layouts and preparation of
photographic sequences which are intergrated in the multimedia and gaming products. It involves
the explitation and management of the still images to generate the illusion of movement.

2(i). Steps for creating database in Ms Access

Creating a blank database

1. On the File tab, click New, and the click Blank Database
2. Type a file name in the File Name box. To change the location of the file from the default,
click Browse for a location to put your database, browse to the new location and then
click OK

3. Click create
Create database by using a template
1. If you have your database open, on the File tab, click Close. Backstage view displays
the New tab.
2. Several sites of templates are available in the New tab
3. Select the template you want to use.
4. Access suggests a file name for your database in the file name box. You can change
the file name if you want. To save the database in a different folder from the one
displayed below the file nname box, click browse to the foder in which you want to
save it and click OK
5. click create.

2(ii) Advantages of adopting a personalised application software

 It is tailor made to the specific needs of your enterprise -> A direct relationship is
established between you and the ddevelopment company. A knowledgeable developer can
adapt to your requirement changes more easily and collaborate with you on making the
application the best it can be.
 It is more secure against threats -> It is more secure and harder for hackers to to infiltrate
because it's only used within your organization
 Support-> you will get dependable technical support team that was involved in the
development process of your application. They are familiar with your software and handle
any issues that arise along the way.
 It is much flexible than packed software and can be modified.

3(i). Concentrator

 It is a device that acts as an efficient forwarder of data transmission signals.

 It is a type of multiplexor that combines multiple channels onto a single transmission

medium in such a way that all individual channels can be simultaneously active.
 For example, ISPs use concentrators to combine their dial up modem connections onto
faster T 1 lines that connect to the internet.
 Concentrators are also used in LANs to combine transmissions from a cluster of nodes. In
this case the concentrator is often called a hub

(ii) Superscript
It is a number , figure, symbol or indicator that is smaller than a normal line of type and set
slightly above it

(iii) Underscript
It is a number , figure, symbol or indication which is slightly below a normal line of type.
