HYD 32 Page 2 of 5
STG Sets REV.01 , DT 30 11 10

1.0 GENERAL:

The erection of TG sets involves the following activities:

1. Checking of foundation
2. Pecker plate grouting
3. Placement of equipment on the pecker plates
4. Leveling and alignment
5. Grouting of equipment

2.0 CHECKING OF FOUNDATION

Foundation checking involves

2.1 Dimensional checking of foundation as per drawing.

2.2 Certification from civil engineer concerned.
2.3 Marking of center lines of turbine, gear box and generator.
2.4 Position of foundation bolts pockets with respect to the center line.
2.5 Verticality of the pockets to be ensured.

3.0 PECKER PLATE GROUTING

3.1 Blue matching of pecker plates is to be done with respect to surface

plate. (70 to 80%).
3.2 Chip the foundation top to make it rough for better grouting effect.
3.3 Arrange the plates on the foundation as per pecker plated
arrangement drawing.
3.4 Transfer the elevation bench mark on the turbine floor.
3.5 Place the packer according to the required level allowance ±1.0 mm.
3.6 Individual plates can the leveled with the help of master level.
3.7 Make shuttering around the leveled plates and grout the plates with
non shrink cement.
3.8 The grouting thickness should be 50mm or as per drawing. Avoid
having excess thickness as it may result in cracking on the surfaces.
3.9 Have a record of make and batch number of the cement.

4.0 LEVELLIING AND ALIGNMENT

GEAR BOX (IF APPLICABLE)

4.1 Place the base plate under gear box and level it using shims and
tighten the foundation bolts

4.2 Place the gear box on the bed plate and blue match the surface with
respect to the Gear box bottom.
4.3 Place the gear box on bed plate keeping approximately 2 mm shims.
(the purpose of keeping shims at initial stages is to have provision of
alignment adjustment in future due to shrinkage)

TURBINE ERECTION (refer annex. 1 for details)

4.4 Place the assembled turbine on the grouted pecker plates

4.5 Keep the orientation as per the marked center on the foundation
4.6 Level the machine on pecker plate.
4.7 Tighten the foundation bolts.
4.8 Check centering of the turbine as per QC protocol.

GENERATOR ERECTION

4.9 Place bed plates under generator on grouted pecker plates and level.
4.10 Place generator on bed plates and assemble with holding down bolts.
4.11 Keep min 2 mm shims for future adjustment.
4.12 Check and adjust orientation as per foundation marking and tighten
the foundation bolts.
4.13 Lift the generator and weld pieces of foundation bed plate together.
4.14 Place generator back on the bed plate.
4.15 Assemble the generator rotor as per the details in rotor insertion and
withdrawal drawing.

ALIGNMENT

4.16 Complete alignment between turbine gear box generator. (refer

alignment protocol supplied by Engineering)
4.17 Maintain coupling distance between turbine gear box generator as
per the input and out put coupling drawing.

5.0 GROUTING OF SET

5.1 Tack weld the pecker plates (if the pecker plate are 9mm and above).
5.2 Fill the foundation holes with dry mixture of cement and sand (1:15).
5.3 Grout the machine with non shrink cement (Conbextra GP 2 or
equivalent).
5.4 Allow the curing of cement for5 7 days depending on the
specification provided by the cement supplier.
