Contemporary Arts of The Philippines

Contemporary Art means “the art of today”. Every painting, sculpture, performance, video
art, and photography produced in the 1970s up to present is what we call contemporary
art. It is abstract, culturally diverse, and technologically advancing. Contemporary artists
embrace the variety of styles, artistic intention, and expression of individuality. It
challenges the traditions of art in the past.

Philippine Arts became an expression of people’s aspiration for a just, free, and sovereign
society. Artists use the question of national identity in various art forms. The Philippines
actually has a lot of famous contemporary artist both working locally and internationally.
They get recognized and showcase their works in museums and art galleries. One Filipino
Contemporary Artist that we should know of is Ronald Ventura, maker of “Grayground”

painting “Grayground” is the highest selling work in the history of the Southeast Asian art
market which is at 1.1 million dollars at an auction in Hongkong.
