Hydraulic Fluid - Check
Hydraulic Fluid Limit

If one or more of the fluid

properties is more than the limit or is
not in the specified range, continue
the
procedure
Hydraulic Fluid : Replacement Procedure
SUBTASK 29-11-00-900-003
11) Replace the hydraulic fluid in the hydraulic systems A and B. Do this task: Hydraulic Fluid Replacement,
TASK 29-00-00-900-801.
NOTE: These steps are necessary to replace the hydraulic fluid in the reservoir. It is not necessary to
flush the entire hydraulic system at this time.

SUBTASK 29-11-00-960-002
12) Make sure that the affected hydraulic system return and case drain filters are replaced.

SUBTASK 29-11-00-860-048
13) Pressurize the hydraulic systems A and B. Do this task: Hydraulic System A or B Pressurization, TASK 29-11-
00-860-801.
Hydraulic Fluid : Replacement Procedure
SUBTASK 29-11-00-860-049
14) Operate all of the primary and secondary flight controls 6 to 8 times to mix the fluid and let the fluid flow
through the filtration elements.

SUBTASK 29-11-00-700-001
15) At the next maintenance, repeat the fluid sample test.
• If necessary, repeat the drain and refill of the affected hydraulic reservoir procedure until the fluid property is less than the
in-service fluid limits.
• If draining and refilling the hydraulic reservoir does not resolve the contamination issue, or the contamination is too severe
(petroleum/jet fuel/chemical contamination etc), do this task for the affected hydraulic system: TASK 29-00-00-900-801.
• If petroleum contamination is found, immediate hydraulic fluid replacement is required, do this task: TASK 29-00-00-900-
801.

SUBTASK 29-11-00-610-001
16) Service the hydraulic reservoirs. Do this task: Hydraulic Reservoir Servicing, TASK 12-12-00-610-801.

return modules) a new fluid sample must e taken after around 600
FH or 750 FC and analyzed to ensure each chemical
parameter and particle contamination is within
acceptable in-service limits
Hydraulic Fluid Cleanness
• A = If a sample analysis shows a particle contamination rate higher than
Class 9 limit values, and if hydraulic fluid chemical analysis result is in
accordance with requirements, in order to prevent any operational impact,
ATR considers that the A/C can be dispatched or a time frame of ten (10)
days waiting for appropriate corrective actions on condition that:
• Hydraulic system operate normally ( nominal pressure of 3000 psi)
• No pin pop out is observed on HP (pressure module) and LP filters
• No anomalies reported on the systems supplied by green an/or blue hydraulic
systems ( too long actuation, jamming, etc.)
• B = If the sample analysis shows a article contamination rate higher than
Class 9 limit values and at the same time hydraulic fluid chemical analysis
results are above authorized limits then, if applicable, the most restrictive
permitted time frame has to be considered.

Contamination Analysis with Particle Count X
• Following steps:
Procedure 1
(Fluid Change)
Procedure 2
(Fluid Cleaning)
Procedure 3
(Fluid Reclaim)

If the contamination is confirmed, do necessary

maintenance steps. New fluid sample
analysis before aircraft release into service is
necessary. Contact Airbus for more data if
necessary.
Chemical Analysis
• Chemical analysis must be to NSA307110 "Limit Characteristics of fluid in operation". If the values of the
chemical analysis are in the given limits, no further actions are required. The values below are the permitted
limits for in-service fluid:
• Acid number: 1.5mg KOH/g maximum
• Density at 23 +/- 3 deg.C: 970 to 1066 kg/m3 (60.56 to 66.55 lb/ft3)
• Water content: 0.50% recommended, 0.80% maximum.
• Viscosity at 38 deg.C: 6.0 to 12.5 CST
• Chlorine content: 200 ppm maximum
• Electrical conductivity: 0.30 microSiemens.cm-1 minimum.

NOTE: The maximum water content is 0.80%. But to increase the hydraulic fluid life, Airbus recommends
to keep this value at less than 0.50%.

Hydraulic Fluid Analysis
Permitted Particle Contamination of the Hydraulic
Fluid

If the sample analysis has a

contamination rate that is not
more than the maximum
limits given in the
table, no more procedures
are necessary.
Permitted Particle Contamination of the
Hydraulic Fluid
• If the sample analysis shows a contamination rate higher than one of the class 9 values (measured
in laboratory):
• Stop the hydraulic tests.
• If only one system is contaminated, do one of the recovery procedures given in this procedure (Ref.
AMM TASK 12-32-29-281-802) .

NOTE: If all the flight controls operational-tests (given in paragraph 3.D) are completed, you can
temporarily release the aircraft to service for a maximum of two days or 36 FH (the one that occurs
first) (to go back to the primary base for the maintenance).
If more than one system is contaminated:
If more than one system is contaminated:
If more than one system is contaminated:

If the contamination is confirmed, do the necessary maintenance steps.

A new fluid sample analysis
is necessary before the aircraft release into service. Contact Airbus for
more data, if necessary.
If there is no contamination, no maintenance action is necessary.
Chemical Analysis
• Make sure that the values of the chemical analysis are in the NSA307110 limit characteristics of the fluid in
operation.
• If the values of the chemical analysis are in the given limits, no more steps are necessary. The values that
follow are the permitted limits for the in-service fluid:
• Acid number: a maximum of 1.5 mg KOH/g
• Density at 23 +/- 3 deg. C: 970 to 1066 kg/m3 (60.56 to 66.55 lb/ft3).
• Water content: 0.50% recommended, a maximum of 0.80%.
• Viscosity at 38 deg. C: 6.0 to 12.5 cSt
• Chlorine content: a maximum of 200 ppm
• Electrical conductivity: a minimum of 0.30 microS.cm-1.

NOTE: The maximum water content is 0.80%, but to increase the hydraulic fluid life, Airbus recommends to keep this
value at less than 0.50%.
Chemical Analysis
• Additional temporary
authorizations:
Airbus gives more time
limit authorizations to
prevent operational effects
on the aircraft if chemical
contamination occurs.
• The aircraft can stay in service
during these periods before the
applicable maintenance and new
analysis results.
