Guidelines on how to create formula cards:

1. Create a Word document with a [recommended] height of 5.5 inches and a [recommended] width of
8 inches in order to divide a short bond paper into 2 equal sizes crosswise with no wastage of paper.
2. In order to provide formula cards with a consistent design and for ease of editing, modified “Styles”
(under Home tab of Microsoft Word) are being implemented. The format is as follows:
a. Heading 1 - Go to “Styles,” right-click Heading 1 and click modify. Set the font to (1) Segoe UI,
(2) font size 7, (3) Bold, change Automatic to Black color; then (4) click Format then Paragraph.
Then (5) copy the following settings at the image below.

After completing paragraph settings, click OK and the window will close. Now click (4) Format
once again then Border. After which follow the settings in the image below step-by-step then
click OK until both windows have closed.

b. Heading 2 – The steps are similar to that of Heading 1 however there are no more border settings
thus only steps (1) to steps (5) will apply here. Go to “Styles,” right-click Heading 1 and click modify.
Set the font to (1) Segoe UI, (2) font size 6, (3) Bold, change Automatic to Black color; then (4)
click Format then Paragraph. Then (5) copy the following settings at the image below then click
OK until both windows have closed.

c. Heading 3 – Copy the following then press OK until both windows have closed.

d. Formulas – Go to “Styles,” click the double-headed arrow then click Create a Style. Change the
name to “Formulas” then click Modify…. Follow the instructions below then click OK until both
windows have closed.

NOTE: All font sizes mentioned above are suited for 3”x5” index card. If the font size seems too small for
8.5”x5.5” paper, kindly increase the font size proportional to each other.
3. After setting-up all of the styles, go to the “Layout” tab, click “Size” and click More Paper Sizes then
adjust the width and height accordingly to the desired dimensions. Click the Margins tab and adjust
the margins of the sides. Note: The height of the margin of the top is computed by 4.55% of the
overall height of the paper. The height of the margin of the bottom is computed by 9.1% of the
overall height of the paper. The margin of the sides is ALWAYS 0.1”. Thus,
a. For 8.5”x5.5” paper, 0.25” for the top, and 0.5” for the bottom.
b. For 3x5 index card/paper, the margin is 0.14” for the top and 0.23” for the bottom.
4. After setting-up the margin, double-click the header or footer of the document then go to the
Header & Footer tab. Set the Header from top to 0, then set the Header from bottom to 2% of
the overall height of the paper.
5. Now that the document is ready for editing, here are the different functions of each style:
a. Heading 1 – Title of a major lesson
b. Heading 2 – Title of a sub-lesson
c. Heading 3 – Name of formula
d. Formulas – Actual formula
