Reflection Paper:

“Sikhay Lingkod 3: A volunteerism Convention”

Accordinng to Barmeo, Falinchao, et al, 2015, “The National Service Training

Program (NSTP) of the Philippines is a form of service learning which is defined as the

integration of community services to instruction in order to strengthen the civic and

community responsibilities of the students. The purpose of this study is to determine the

effectiveness of the NSTP for the students, its influences along self-improvement,

performance, community involvement, and demonstration of abilities and skills, and the

difficulties encountered by the students while enrolled in their respective NSTP courses.”

Last November 18, 2019, we were required to attend the morning session of a

seminar called “Sikhay Lingkod 3: A volunteerism Convention” at college of Statistics

Auditorium or School of Economics, UP Diliman. The time I arrived at College of Statistics

Auditorium, signed my attendance, the girl on the table handed me a small slip. With

regards to the talk being held inside asking us to what organization we are willing to attend
to. I kept the slip and listem to the talk. There were several speakers in the auditorium and

they are all talking about the organizations they have, endorsing it to us and the purpose of

their organizations. I was fascinated and quite concern with knowing the current situation

of our environment they shared. They have given us awareness to care, take good care of

our Earth and not be ignorant.

They have talked about the camraderia. by being volunteers as photographer,

videographers and or writer. Any form of art or recordings which can help an organization

share their stories. With this, we can work together and let not just the students inside the

auditorium have a glimpse of the actions of the people who are trying to save the

environment. People who have seen these can never be unseen the photos. Now, they have

the choice to care or to not care. The speakers also shared a website where we can sign up

to join the organization, send messages about our concerns with regards to their

organization or our environment, a site where we can donate to help restore our nature,

some photos featured about; powering up renewables, securing food and water,

conservatio and transforming lives of the people, for people, the fight against plastic

pollution and how they work and take good care of wildlife. They also have sections where

they share what they do inside the organization, who they are, how to get involved or join

them, resource center and their contact information.

The speakers were so dedicated with their woks and the advocacy to help our

environment. They are very inspiring. They inspired me to give care and surrender oneself

for the betterment of our world. Speakers made me realize that we can do more, more than

saving the plastic we use after grocery or keeping the candy wraps on our bags or pockets.
We can actually be endowed and experience the actual saving of marine or basically

wildlife. Joining, I can inspire thousands and thousands of people. To care and not be

ignorant. And in the most simple and fastest way, they can do something to help the place

we live in. The short talked mesmerized me. With just hours, we can be aware and do

something about it. Our environment is a continuous destruction. The more we live, the

more we endanger the resources and that affects the wildlife. We must know how to

conserve and love the place where we live. With or without the organizations, we must

know how to conserve and fight for our environment.
